Above: Iraqi minister of planning and developmental cooperation, Ali Baban, expressed his reservation and rejection to the "Oil Law" bill, which the Maliki government has been trying to ratify by the Parliament. Baban explained his disapproval of the bill on the basis that it serves interests of foreign oil companies, not the Iraqi interests, particularly by giving provinces the right to reach agreements with foreign oil companies, which may allow such companies to control production and marketing of Iraqi oil (INA, 7/4/07).
