IOFs invade Qalqilia, shell landing pad in Gaza

[ 29/08/2007 - 09:48 AM ]

QALQILIA, (PIC)--

In the biggest ever Israeli occupation forces (IOF) incursion into Qalqilia city for years, large numbers of heavily armed troops on Wednesday stormed the city, besieged suburbs and broke into many homes in search of an alleged Qassam Brigades cell.

Witnesses and sources told PIC correspondent that the soldiers mounting more than 50 armored vehicles and army jeeps rolled into a number of suburbs in a bid to surprise the alleged Qassam cell members.

They added that warplanes and choppers gave cover to the invading troops as more than 600 soldiers accompanied by huge bulldozers were combing the targeted suburbs.

The sources noted that scores of Zionist Israeli intelligence agents were conducting field questioning of inhabitants in a bid to extract any information leading to the arrest of the Qassam cell.

The witnesses noted that the soldiers were using advanced electronic tracking equipment along with trained police dogs other than the reconnaissance planes.

Hebrew media earlier reported that IOF troops rounded up ten Palestinians in various West Bank areas namely in Jenin, Nablus, Ramallah and Al-Khalil cities and Balata refugee camp.

In the Gaza Strip, IOF navy boats off the Gaza city shores fired three missiles at the landing strip in Ansar security complex west of the city at a late hour Tuesday.

Security sources told PIC correspondent that the shelling did not cause any casualties because evacuation orders were issued to all security cadres.

The Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, on Tuesday evening fired a number of mortar shells at IOF military positions east of the Gaza Strip.

For its part, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement, the Quds Brigades, said it fired a Quds-3 missile at Miftahim settlement east of Khan Younis city, south of the Strip.

Both armed wings said that their raids won't stop until the IOFs stop attacking the Palestinian people.

Note to readers:

The Israeli settlements as well as the Land-Grab, Apartheid Wall in the Palestinian occupied territories have been built illegally on confiscated Palestinian lands. These represent a major violation of international law, Geneva Conventions, and they obstruct reaching a peaceful resolution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The Israeli occupation forces abduct and kidnap Palestinians from their homes on daily basis. Most media refer to these abductions and kidnappings as arrests, which is inaccurate and not true as the Israeli occupation government has no jurisdiction over Palestinian citizens inside their own territories.
