Hamas welcomes Qadoumi's comments on resistance and dialog

Hamas welcomes Qadoumi's comments

[ 20/07/2007 - 05:55 PM ]

GAZA, (PIC)--

Hamas has welcomed statements made by Farouq Al-Qadoumi, head of the PLO's Political Bureau, during an interview with al-Jazeera on Thursday, in which he rejected the handing over of Palestinian resistance weapons. He also called for inter-Palestinian dialogue.

The Hamas movement said in a statement that it "welcomed the statements made by Brother Farouq al-Qadoumi, despite having different views on parts of it, but the statement as a whole and the stands of Brother Qadoumi proves that there is a pragmatic voice within the Fatah movement which has a long experience and great concern for the Palestinian national project and the strength of Palestinian-Palestinian relations."

The movement added that it will not say more than what Qadoumi said with regard to resistance weapons as the question is more serious than an amnesty for a wanted person here or there; "these guns are not owned by the individuals, they are rather entrusted to those who carry them by the Palestinian people, including the martyrs, captives and wounded."

The movement further said that it welcomes Qadoumi's calls for inter-Palestinian dialogue under Arab patronage to get the Palestinian cause out of the current state.

The movement finished the statement by repeating the praise of Qadoumi's balanced approach which reflects the personality of a "solid national leader who can recognize the quintessence of things and which [of these things] is most important at times of crisis."
