Four unknown bodies found in Baghdad

Baghdad, Oct 23, (VOI) - 

Four unidentified bodies were found in different areas of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday. "Police patrols found four unidentified bodies in different areas of Baghdad on Tuesday, most of them were found in Baghdad's western side (al-Karkh)," the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "Three corpses were found in different neighborhoods of al-Karkh: one in each of al-Aamel, al-Mansour, and al-Doura," he explained. "One body was found in al-Qahera neighborhood, eastern side of Baghdad," the source added. "Most of the bodies found bore signs of gunshot wounds to different parts of the body, mainly to the head," he noted.

Woman killed, three children wounded in mortar attack in Basra

Basra, Oct 23, (VOI) - 

A woman was killed and three children were wounded on Tuesday when a mortar round landed on a house in central Basra, a police source said. "A mortar shell hit a house in Kut al-Hajaj region in central Basra, killing a woman and injuring three children," the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) on condition of anonymity. "Police forces also arrested a gang of two persons wearing military uniform, who robbed a local plan for water desalination in Abu al-Khaseeb region, south of Basra, and stole a large amount of money from the plant's owner," the source added. Basra is located 590 km south of Basra.

Four civilians killed, bombs factory found in Mosul

Mosul, Oct 23, (VOI) - 

Four civilians were killed on Tuesday in separate incidents in Mosul, while Iraqi army forces found an explosive materials manufacturing plant in the eastern part of the city, a police source said. "A civilian was killed on Tuesday afternoon by unidentified gunmen in al-Nour neighborhood in eastern Mosul," the source, who refused to be identified, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "The dead man is a bodyguard of a member in the Islamic Party in Mosul," he explained. "Police force found in the same area another dead body with gunshot wounds to the head," the source added, noting that the body belongs to a blacksmith who was kidnapped a few hours earlier from his store in al-Zahraa neighborhood in northeastern Mosul. 

"A woman was killed by a random bullet inside her house in Wadi Eikab region in western Mosul. A 5-year-child was also killed by random fire in al-Islah al-Zeraai region in western Mosul," he continued. Meanwhile, a media source told the VOI that an Iraqi army force found this afternoon a factory for making bombs and booby-trapping vehicles in the industrial region in al-Karama in eastern Mosul. "The forces raided a garage in the industrial region in Karama, where they found 20 explosive charges and two tank bombs," Colonel Ahmed Zibari said. Mosul, capital city of Ninewa province, is 405 km north of Baghdad.

16 civilians killed, 14 wounded in U.S. shelling near Tikrit

Salah al-Din - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 23 /10 /2007 Time 10:20:23

Salah al-Din, Oct 23, (VOI) – 

Sixteen civilians were killed and 14 others wounded when U.S. aircrafts bombed residential areas south of Tikrit, an official security source from Salah al-Din, said on Tuesday.

"U.S. warplanes shelled residential areas in Degla neighborhood, 20 km south of Tikrit, on Tuesday morning, killing 16 civilians and injuring 14 others," Captain Abdullah al-Isawi told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). The wounded were taken to the Tikrit Educational Hospital, the source added. No further details were given by the source.

No comment was available from the U.S. side on the incident. Tikrit, the capital city of Salah al-Din province, lies 175 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Two civilians wounded in eastern Baghdad blast

Baghdad, Oct 23, (VOI) – 

Two civilians were wounded in a bomb explosion in an eastern neighborhood in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Tuesday morning, an Iraqi police source said.

"A bomb planted by unknown individuals on a main road in eastern Baghdad's Zayouna neighborhood went off this morning, wounding two civilians who were close to the scene," the source, who requested that his name remain unmentioned, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). The wounded were rushed to the nearby Ibn al-Nafis Hospital for treatment, the source added.

Civilian killed by bomb in his house

Ninewa - Voices of Iraq Tuesday , 23 /10 /2007 Time 10:20:23

Ninewa 23, (VOI) – 

A civilian was killed when an explosive device went off inside his house in the district of al-Qiyara, 80 km south of Mosul, a police source in Ninewa said on Tuesday.

"The father was killed but none of the other family members was harmed," the source, who declined to have his name mentioned, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "The man's family told the police that they heard an explosion inside the house," he added. The source said the explosion was possibly caused by a fault while the bomb was being home-made. Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, is 402 km north of Baghdad.
