20 Iraqis Killed, Including 9 Executed by Death Squads, Polish Ambassador Injured, an October 3, 2007 Report

The Iraq News Agency, INA, reported that:

- 22 resistance organization united under the leadership of former Iraqi Vice President, Izzat Ibrahim Al-Douri. Their statement emphasized that they won't negotiate with the US forces until the US recognizes the Iraqi resistance as the legitimate representative of the Iraqi people.

The Sotaliraq newspaper reported that:

- A US Hummer military vehicle was destroyed by a roadside bomb in Al-Tobji area, north of Baghdad. Eyewitnesses could not say how many US soldiers were killed or injured because US forces closed the area.

- A person was killed and three bodies were found in Ba'aqouba.

Six unidentified bodies found in Baghdad

Baghdad, Oct 3, (VOI) - 

Six unidentified bodies were found in different areas of the Iraqi capital Baghdad during the past 24 hours, the interior ministry said on Wednesday. "Police patrols found on Wednesday six unidentified bodies in different areas of Baghdad, with most being found in Baghdad's western side (al-Karkh)," the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "Four corpses were found in different neighborhoods of al-Karkh: one in al-Doura, one in al-Aamel, and two in al-Bayya," he explained. "Two bodies were found in Rasafa, eastern side of Baghdad, one in Ur neighborhood, and one in Jisr Diala," the source also said. "Most of the bodies found bore signs of gunshot wounds to different parts of the body, mainly to the head," he noted. SK/SR

Gunmen clad in army uniform kidnap 13 civilians in Diala

Diala, Oct 3, (VOI) - 

Gunmen wearing Iraqi army uniform kidnapped 13 civilians on Wednesday afternoon at a fake checkpoint in Diala, central Iraq, a police source said. "Unknown gunmen wearing Iraqi army uniforms positioned a fake checkpoint on the main road linking Baaquba and Khalis, and forced 13 civilians at gunpoint to an unknown location," the source, who requested anonymity, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). The source, who provided no further details, said "among the captives were women and children." Diala is 57 km northeast of Baghdad. SK/SR

Army officer gunned down, explosive charge defused in Mosul

Ninewa, Oct 3, (VOI) – 

Unknown gunmen shot down an Iraqi army officer in Mosul, while a police patrol defused an explosive charge in the northeast of the city, a security source from Ninewa police said on Wednesday, 03 October, 2007 "Unidentified gunmen driving a modern car fired at an Iraqi army lieutenant in al-Jazaer neighborhood in eastern Mosul, killing him on the spot," Brig. Abdul Kareem al-Juburi, the director of Ninewa police operations room, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "The attackers fled to an unknown destination," he indicated. Meanwhile, a patrol belonging to Ninewa police defused a roadside explosive device planted near a main bus station in northeastern Mosul.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, is located 405 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Three civilians killed, two wounded in armed clashes in Ba'aquba

Diala, Oct 3, (VOI) – 

Three civilians were killed and two others wounded in clashes between police forces and gunmen in Ba'aquba, an official security source said on Wednesday. "The wounded included a university student who was at the scene of the clashes," the source, who declined to have his name mentioned, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). Meanwhile, a child was wounded by gunfire in Ba'aquba's neighborhood of al-Mustafa this morning, the same source added. Baaquba, the capital city of Diala province, is 57 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Polish ambassador in Baghdad injured in explosion

Baghdad, Oct 3, (VOI)- 

Polish ambassador to Iraq was injured when an explosive charge went off near his motorcade on Wednesday morning in central Baghdad, a police source said.

"A roadside bomb, planted on the main road in al-Karada neighborhood in central Baghdad, was detonated while the Polish ambassador's motorcade was passing by, injuring him as well as a number of embassy's staff," the source, who refused to be named, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "Security forces arrived to the scene and immediately sealed off the area," he also said. "A rescue team rushed the wounded to a private hospital for treatment," the source added. Poland is a U.S. ally in Iraq and 1000 Polish soldiers are operating within the Multinational forces in Iraq. Twenty-four Polish servicemen and civilians have been killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003.

Five family members killed, injured as missile hit central Falluja

Falluja, Oct 3, (VOI)- 

One person was killed and four others were injured, including women and children, all of one family, when a missile hit a house in central Falluja on Wednesday morning, a police source said.

"A missile landed on a house in al-Bazara neighborhood in central Falluja at dawn, killing a member of a family and injuring four more, including children and women," the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) on condition of anonymity. "Most of the wounded were in critical condition," he also said. Falluja, Anbar province, lies 45 km west of Baghdad.

Key SIIC's leader killed in Diwaniya

Diwaniya, Oct 3, (VOI)- 

A key leader from the Shiite Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC) was killed in the predominantly Shiite province of Diwaniya, a local official said on Wednesday. "Unknown gunmen attacked, on Tuesday evening, Ali Husssein al-Zamli outside his house in Efak district, 30 km southeast of Diwaniya, killing him instantly," Hussein al-Budairi, head of the provincial council's security committee, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). Al-Budairi added that al-Zamli is a key leader of SIIC in Diwaniya and a member of Efak district local council. "Police forces were sent to Efak district following the incident and laid a cordon on a nearby orchard in search for the perpetuators," the local official said. Diwaniya, 180 km south of Baghdad, have been a scene of assassinations that targeted political and religious leaders in the province. SK
