Israeli Occupation Government demolishes Islamic historical fence in Jerusalem built 491 years ago

[ 04/10/2007 - 09:13 AM ]

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)--

Shaikh Mohamed Hussein, the Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine, strongly denounced the Israeli occupation government (IOG) for demolishing an Islamic archeological fence adjacent to the fountain of Sultan Sulaiman al-Qanoni, outside Al-Khalil gate in occupied Jerusalem, which was constructed 491 years ago.

Sheikh Hussein confirmed that this assault on such antiquity comes within the framework of a scheme prepared by the IOA to judaize places of worship and Islamic antiquities, pointing out that the IOA put some Jewish stones in the area in an attempt to conceal Islamic monuments and antiquities as a prelude to erase the history of the holy city and its Islamic character.

The Mufti also revealed that the IOA is carrying out demolition works against the antiquities of the Umayyad state and excavations in the road to the Magharba gate and other assaults on Islamic antiquities, calling on the ISESCO and UNESCO organizations to assume their responsibilities towards the protection of Islamic and historical antiquities in occupied Jerusalem.

For his part, Shaikh Tayseer Al-Tamimi, the chief justice of Palestine, lashed out at the Arab leaders, officials and scholars, saying that they preferred to remain silent and oblivious about the adversities befalling occupied Jerusalem especially after the IOG announced officially the opening of a synagogue under Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Al-Tamimi pointed out that Jerusalem is no longer a concern or on the agenda of the Muslims or non-Muslims, adding that this forgetfulness towards Jerusalem encouraged the IOG to carry out its schemes.

The chief justice revealed the existence of more than 70 settlement outposts inside the old city of occupied Jerusalem which does not exceed one square kilometer.

In the same context, Mohamed Al-Agha, the minister of tourism, in the caretaker government charged on Wednesday in a statement received by the PIC that the IOG is still blocking thousands of Palestinian citizens from performing prayers and worship in Al-Aqsa Mosque at the pretext of holding Jewish festivals.

Agha also condemned the "barbaric" acts of Israeli settlers escorted by the IOF troops in occupied Jerusalem who desecrated its streets and alleys through organizing provocative marches, and assaulting Palestinian store owners.

The minister also stated that the IOF troops continue to strengthen its forces at the crossings and military checkpoints on the main entrances to occupied Jerusalem, as well as erecting dozens of barriers to search and detain Palestinian Jerusalemites.
