3 US Soldiers, 52 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, Mass Grave of 51 bodies Found in Mahmoudiya, According to April 28, 2008 News Reports

Only God knows how many Iraqis are killed everyday. The following represents part of the reporting but the actual number of deaths should very much exceed what's reported.


Aljazeera tv reported that three US soldiers were killed in Iraq today.

Amsi.org
reported that US-recruited Iraqi forces and US-recruited Sahwa fighters have been launching a campaign of kidnapping former Iraqi senior army officers.

Yaqen.net reported that US-recruited Iraqi forces attacked Souq Al-Shuyoukh area, in Al-Nasseriya Province, gathered people in one house then set it on fire. Internet sites ran scenes of the soldiers beating the people and dragging them in the streets.

The Iraq News Agency (INA) reported that a mass grave of 51 bodies of Iraqis executed by death squads was found in Al-Askari area, in Al-Mahmoudiya yesterday. It added that another mass grave of 50 bodies were found in Al-Ghubbah village, near Ba'aqouba, which was reported in ccun.org yesterday.

Gunman killed, 52 wanted men arrested in Baghdad

Security forces killed a gunman, arrested 52 wanted and suspected gunmen and defused 6 bombs in Baghdad under Fardh al-Qanoon plan in the past 24 hours, the official spokesman for the plan said.
"One gunman was killed in al-Aazamiya region in northern Baghdad and arrested two wanted men in central al-Rasafa region," General Qassem Atta told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI) by phone.

2 suspects arrested after killing two civilians in Baghdad

Two people, suspected of being involved in killing two civilians in western Baghdad, were arrested by a police force, while another force found a bomb in a car, the official spokesman for the Fardh al-Qanoon plan said on Monday.

"A force from the 54th brigade of the Iraqi army arrested two persons, suspected of killing two civilians using guns with silencers in al-Mansour neighborhood in western Baghdad," General Qassem Atta told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI).

Gunmen kill Sadrist leader, injure wife in Basra

A Sadrist leaded was killed on Monday and his wife was injured by unknown gunmen in central Basra, a police source said

"Unidentified armed men opened fire on Ali Ghazi, a leader in the Sadrist bloc, in al-Tamima region in central Basra, killing him on the spot and wounding his wife, who was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment," the source, who asked to remain unnamed, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

"The leader was a teacher and he was a Sadrist leader in Basra," he also said.

Basra, Iraq's second largest city and oil hub, 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, had witnessed immense security unrest a few hours after Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki announced the launching of Operation Saulat al-Forsan to impose order in the province.

Fierce battles occurred between security forces and armed groups believed to belong to Sadr's Mahdi Army militias.

Woman, child killed, 4 civilians wounded in mortar attack in Baghdad

A woman and a child were killed and four civilians others wounded when a number of mortar shells landed on the central Baghdad's heavily-fortified green zone on Monday, the Iraqi police said.

"A number of mortars landed near the al-Takhtit gate that leads to the green zone, killing one woman and a child and wounding four civilians others," a security source, who asked not be named, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

The U.S.-protected Green Zone is home to the Iraqi government headquarters and ministries as well as foreign embassies including the U.S. and British embassies.

Iraqi soldier killed, 3 wanted men captured in Mosul

An Iraqi soldier was killed in clashes with an armed group while three wanted men were captured in a security crackdown in western Mosul on Monday, an official Iraqi army source said.

"The Iraqi soldier was killed in clashes between security forces and unidentified gunmen in Tal al-Rumman neighborhood, western Mosul," the source, who did not want his name mentioned, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

"An Iraqi army force arrested three wanted men belonging to the Ansar al-Sunna group in a security raid in Tanak neighborhood, also in the western part of Mosul city," the same source said.
He did not give more details about the arrests.

The Ansar al-Sunna, or Supporters of Sunna (the Prophet Muhammad's tradition), is an armed group that spreads in several Iraqi cities and wages armed attacks against Iraqi and foreign troops.
Mosul, the capital of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

38 gunmen killed in different areas in Baghdad, U.S. army reveals

U.S. forces, in association with Iraqi forces, killed 38 gunmen in different areas of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the U.S. army revealed in two separate statements on Monday. 

"Iraqi Army soldiers and Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers engaged and killed 22 (Iraqi fighters) attacking an Iraqi Security Force Checkpoint April 27, in northeastern Baghdad," according to a U.S. army statement received by Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

In another statement, the U.S. army said "soldiers clashed with armed groups in several areas of Baghdad on Sunday morning and noon and managed to kill 16 gunmen."

2 police officers killed, driver wounded in Tikrit attack

Two police officers were killed and their driver seriously wounded when their patrol vehicle came under armed attack in central Tikrit, a police source in Salah al-Din province said on Monday. 

"Gunmen attacked an Iraqi police patrol vehicle parked in al-Asri neighborhood, central Tikrit, killing two police officers in the ranks of major and lieutenant and severely wounding their driver," the source, who refused to be named, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

Security forces later on imposed a curfew that lasted until Monday morning, the source said, not giving further details.
Tikrit, the capital of Salah al-Din province, lies 175 km north of Baghdad.

5 civilians killed, 10 wounded in Sadr City clashes

Five civilians were killed and 10 others injured in intense fighting between joint Iraqi-U.S. forces and gunmen in the troubled eastern Baghdad district of Sadr City since Sunday evening until the early hours of Monday, an Iraqi security source said.

"The clashes erupted in the areas of Djamila, Sahat 55 and al-Habibiya of Sadr City, leaving five people killed and 10 others wounded with the number of casualties is most likely to rise," the source, who preferred not to have his name mentioned, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

·        US attacks Madinat as-Sadr during rally by Iraqi parliamentarians trying to stop the nearly  month-long US assault on the impoverished district.

·        US offensive against impoverished Madinat as-Sadr district of Baghdad continues: eight more Iraqis killed from Saturday night to dawn Sunday, one of the dead being a woman.

US attacks Madinat as-Sadr during rally by Iraqi parliamentarians trying to stop the nearly month-long US assault on the impoverished district. 

In a dispatch posted at 7:55pm Baghdad time Sunday evening, the Yaqen News Agency reported that US forces pounded the impoverished Madinat as-Sadr district of Baghdad on Sunday while Sadrist members of the Iraqi parliament rallied there to protest the American offensive. 

Yaqen reported that US aircraft and tanks continued pounding the Madinat as-Sadr district – a stronghold of support for anti-occupation Shi ‘ religious leader Muqtada as-Sadr and his Jaysh al-Mahdi militia – on Sunday.  The attacks took place after members of the Iraqi parliament from the Sadr movement began a rally in the area to protest the American-led offensive that has been going on most of the month of April. 

Maha ‘Adil, a female member of parliament for the Sadr Movement said on Sunday that the parliamentarians, subjected to the US attack, saw the savagery of the American campaign against Madinat as-Sadr.  She added that the representatives witnessed the death of one person before their very eyes, when an American sniper gunned him down. 

Maha ‘Adil said that the MPs would take their experiences to the parliament where they would endeavor to hold another demonstration. 

The US offensive against the anti-occupation Sadr Movement and its Jaysh al-Mahdi militia is believed to be in preparation for an eventual US attack on Iran. 

US “Green Zone” hit by at least 10 mortar shells Sunday afternoon during dust storm. 

In a dispatch posted at 6:44pm Baghdad time Sunday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that at least 10 mortar shells were fired into the top-security US compound dubbed the “Green Zone”during a dust storm that swept through the Iraqi capital Sunday afternoon. 

Yaqen reported a source in the government police as saying that the storm grounded US aircraft, facilitating the barrage. 

US offensive against impoverished Madinat as-Sadr district of Baghdad continues: eight more Iraqis killed from Saturday night to dawn Sunday, one of the dead being a woman. 

In a dispatch posted at 2:20pm Baghdad time Sunday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that US forces continued their several-week-old offensive against the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in the Madinat as-Sadr section of Baghdad on Saturday and until dawn on Sunday. 

Yaqen reported sources in hospitals in Madinat as-Sadr as well as Iraqi government sources as saying that hospitals had received the bodies of eight dead and admitted 44 wounded people as patients in the previous few hours.  One of those killed was a woman, the sources said. 

Yaqen noted that on Sunday, spokesman Salah al-‘Ubaydi of the Sadr Movement rejected conditions laid down by US-backed Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki for an end to the American-led offensive. 

Car bomb in eastern Baghdad kills Iraqi policeman. 

In a dispatch posted at 1:15pm Baghdad time Sunday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a car bomb that had been parked by the side of a road near the ash-Sha‘b Stadium in eastern Baghdad exploded by a patrol of the Iraqi regime police. 

Bomb kills policeman in al-Mansur. 

In a dispatch posted at 12:05pm Baghdad time midday Sunday, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by a patrol of the Iraqi government police in the upscale west Baghdad neighborhood of al-Mansur. 

One killed, 16 wounded in fighting between Jaysh al-Mahdi, Iraqi regime troops in Baghdad Sunday. 

In a dispatch posted at 11:40am Baghdad time Sunday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that Iraqi regime forces battled the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in the al-Bayya‘ neighborhood of western Baghdad in a battle that erupted on Sunday morning. 

Yaqen reported a source in the regime who refused to be identified as saying that the fighting had left one person dead and 16 more wounded, according to preliminary reports.  The source provided no further details. 

US troops and their Iraqi regime allies have been battling the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi for several weeks in an offensive that is believed to be in preparation for an eventual US attack on Iran. 

Salah ad-DinProvince.

At-Tarimiyah. 

Joint US-Iraqi government base in at-Tarimiyah bombarded. 

In a dispatch posted at 11pm Baghdad time Sunday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that a base jointly occupied by US troops and Iraqi Regime National Guards in at-Tarimiyah, 30km north of Baghdad, was bombarded. 

Samarra’. 

Car bomb attack kills woman in Samarra’. 

In a dispatch posted at 6:15pm Baghdad time Sunday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a car bomb that had been parked in a residential neighborhood in eastern Samarra’, 120km north of Baghdad, blew up. 

Yaqen reported a source in the Salah ad-Din Province police as saying that the car bomb was detonated by remote control in the al-Qadisiyah neighborhood, killing a woman and wounding four more people. 

Tuz Khurmatu. 

Soldier killed in drive-by shooting Saturday night. 

In a dispatch posted at 10:35am Baghdad time Sunday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that armed men in a car with no license plates opened fire on an Iraqi army soldier near Tuz Khurmatu, 185km north of Baghdad late on Saturday night. 

Ninwa Province.

Al-Mawsil. 

Four wounded in two bombings in al-Mawsil. 

In a dispatch posted at 3:40pm Baghdad time Sunday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by a police patrol in the az-Zuhur neighborhood to the east of al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad. 

Yaqen reported Brigadier General Khalid ‘Abd as-Sattar, the official spokesman of the Operations Command for Ninwa Province, as saying that another bomb went off by an Iraqi regime patrol in the “17 Tammuz” area of western al-Mawsil.  Four people were wounded in the two bombings, ‘Abd as-Sattar said, without providing any further details. 

Wasit Province.Al-Kut. 

Iraqi regime claims capture of 122 members of Jaysh al-Mahdi in al-Kut. 

In a dispatch posted at 10:45pm Baghdad time Sunday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that Iraqi regime forces claimed to have captured 122 anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen in the city of al-Kut, 150km southeast of Baghdad, in the last 24 hours. 

Yaqen reported a source in the Iraqi regime army as saying that a joint force of government police and army soldiers launched a campaign at dawn on Saturday aimed at capturing unlicensed weapons in the al-Jihad neighborhood in the city.  The regime forces confiscated 317 weapons and arrested 122 people, all of them alleged members of the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia.

The government source claimed that among the confiscated weapons were 17 anti-tank mines, thirty-nine 82mm mortar shells, an Austrian-made rocket, a mortar and 312 light arms of various types.  The source asserted that most of the weapons were modern and had been manufactured in Iran. 

Al-Qadisiyah Province.

Ad-Diwaniyah. 

Policeman killed in attack in ad-Diwaniyah. 

In a dispatch posted at 10pm Baghdad time Sunday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that armed men shot and killed a policeman in the city of ad-Diwaniyah, 180km south of Baghdad. 

Yaqen reported a source in the ad-Diwaniyah police as saying that the attack took place in the al-Jumhuriyah neighborhood of ad-Diwaniyah and that the attackers were able to get away.  The al-Jumhuriyah neighborhood has been the scene of heavy fighting between Iraqi regime forces and the anti-occupation Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in recent months.
