Date: 28 / 04 / 2008  Time:  12:28
Hebron – Ma'an –

A Palestinian military court in the West Bank city of Hebron sentenced a Palestinian security officer to death by firing squad after he was found guilty of treason and collaboration with the Israeli occupation, court officials said on Monday.

"The suspect has been found guilty of treason within a network of collaborators led by his uncle that operated in the town of Yatta. He used to transfer information to his father. He confessed to transferring information that led to the killing of four wanted Palestinian activists, the destruction of a house and apprehension of several wanted operatives," says head of the military court Ahmad Abu Dayyah.

He added that after review article 131 of the Palestinian military law of 1979, the court decided unanimously that the suspect should be executed.

Judges Ahmad Abu Dayyah, Ra'id Fannun, and Fadi Hijazi presided in the trial. The chief Palestinian military prosecutor in Hebron, Isa Amr, and another military prosecutor, Hani Al-Heih, attended the hearing.

The suspect has been in Palestinian custody since 8 August 2007, while his uncle managed to flee to Israel.
