44 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, Including 24 by US Forces, Sadr Calls for Massive Anti-US Protest on Wednesday, According to April 3, 2008 News Reports

Amsi.org reported the following news today:

- 6 Iraqis were killed in US air raid on Hillah.
- 7 Iraqis were killed, 12 were injured in a car bomb explosion in western Mosul.

The Iraq News Agency (INA) reported the following news today:

- 3 members of Ghilan family were killed, two were injured when their Basra home was attacked in a US air strike.

Sadr’s office calls for massive anti-U.S. protest on Wednesday

Office of the Shi'i cleric Moqtada al-Sadr in holy southern city of Najaf called for a big anti-American protest on April 9th, a day that marks the fifth anniversary of when U.S. forces swept into central Baghdad.

A statement issued by the Sadr office’s central committee supervising the demonstration in the office of Sadr in Najaf late on Wednesday said "Muslim Sunnis, Shi'is, Arabs and Kurds are urged to go out and demonstrate in the city of Najaf."

He added, "To our oppressed people, Sunnis, Shi'is, Arabs, and Kurds, and to the Mujahideen, to the bereaved mothers and orphans, the time has come to raise your voices loud high in Iraq against the occupier."

The statement continued "Express your rejection through your participation in the massive protest, carrying Iraqi flags to promote the unity of Iraq and claim independence on 9th April, the 5th anniversary of the occupation of Iraq."

The city of Najaf witnessed similar demonstration on 9th April 2007, in which hundreds of thousands of people from Najaf, 180 km southwest of Baghdad, and the rest of the Iraqi governorates walked from the Kufa mosque, 10 km east of Najaf, to the shrine of the first Shiite Imam Ali in Najaf.

Western Baghdad attack's casualties up to 13

The death toll from the car bomb explosion that ripped through al-Harithiya region in western Baghdad rose to three dead and ten wounded, a police source said.

"The explosion left three dead, including a woman, and ten wounded, including a child and three policemen," the source told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

"The blast too place at 11 am on Thursday when a police vehicle patrol was passing in al-Kindi street in the region," he explained.

A police source had said earlier one civilian was killed and seven others were injured on Thursday in a car bomb explosion in al-Harithiya region in western Baghdad.

A medic, who refused to have his name mentioned, told VOI that "the wounded include women and children."

U.S. forces kill 11 gunmen near Tikrit

U.S. forces killed eleven gunmen, including Arabs, west of Tikrit, said a police source on Thursday.

"U.S. troops made an airdrop in Ain al-Faras region, west of Tikrit, after receiving intelligence reports indicating the presence of fighters carrying Arab nationalities in the region," the source told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI).

"Separate clashes broke out between suspected al-Qaeda gunmen and U.S. forces, during which 11 gunmen, including seven carrying Arab passports, were killed," he explained.

"The U.S. forces told the police that they carried the gunmen's bodies to the U.S. base north of Tikrit," the source added.

"One U.S. soldier was injured in the clashes," he also said.
Tikrit, the capital of Salah al-Din, is 175 km north of Baghdad.

Car bomb leaves 8 casualties in Baghdad

One civilian was killed and seven others were injured on Thursday in a car bomb explosion in al-Harithiya region in western Baghdad, a police source said.

"A car crammed with explosives was remotely detonated in al-Kindi street in al-Harithiya region in western Baghdad, killing a civilian and wounding seven," the source told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq –(VOI).
For his part, a medic, who refused to have his name mentioned, told the VOI "the wounded include women and children."

US army kills 4 Iraqi cops, guard in Babel-police

Five Iraqi security forces and seven others wounded when  US forces  launched attacks against them in Hilla, south Baghdad, a Babel police source said.

 "A US force was airlanded by a helicopter into Jameiya district, central Hilla,shotting fire at a guard in his night duty dead", a source in Babel police, who requested anonmity, told Aswat al-Iraq-Voices of Iraq(VOI).

The source pointed out the province's police "had not been early informed about the attack".
 He noted "a patrol police forces sent to the accident scene clashed with the US troops, and was hit with a rocket fired by backing US helicopter"

"Four policemen were killed and three others wounded in addition to two patrol police vehicles were set ablaze", he added.

The police source said "the helicopter pursued the ambulance rushing the injuried to Hilla hospital and fired a rocket, leaving four policemen wounded".

The US Media advisor Abdellatif Rayan denied "knowing any information about the accident".
 Hilla, the capiatl city of Babel Province, lies 100 km south-west Baghdad.

Army kills 6 gunmen, detain 9 in operations across Iraq-US military

Baghdad, April3, (VOI)-

US army killed six gunmen and arrested nine others in separate operation conducted in four provinces, a military statement said on Thursday.

The announcement added "while conducting operations in support of Iraqi Security Forces, Coalition forces were attacked with small-arms fire by two criminals on a rooftop. The ground force called in supporting aircraft to engage the individuals. An F/A-18 carried out a precision airstrike on the house".
 Coalition forces on site confirmed that "two enemy were killed in the airstrike".

Earlier, Iraqi police told VOI "a fighter fire a rocket into a residential house, killing three civilians, including a woman, and wounding six others".
British troops in Basra confirmed the occurrance of the attack and the civilians casualties.
 Coalition forces pointed out they were "unaware of any civilians killed in the strike", but were "currently looking into the matter".

Elsewhere, US troops announced they killed four gunmen and arrested six others in operations targetting senior al-Qaeda network operatives(AQI) in central and nothern Iraq.
"Coalition forces engaged with gunmen in east of Samarra , killing four", a US army statement said.
It noted they" captured a wanted individual Wednesday in Mosul believed to be a senior figure in the AQI network and tied to several senior terrorist leaders."

"One additional suspect was detained during the mission, and two more were detained this morning in similar operations in the city". it added.

The announcement highlighted "ground forces captured an individual identified from intelligence gathered during an operation West of Qayyarah in Mosul.
Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa, lies 405 km north Baghdad.
