Haniyah extols record of his government in new book

Date: 13 / 08 / 2008  Time:  13:29
Gaza – Ma'an –

Ismail Haniyah, who was elected Palestinian Prime Minister but now holds only authority in the Gaza Strip, is publishing a book about the experience of his de facto government.

In the abstract of the book, Haniyah says the Hamas-run government has overcome immense obstacles.

"The government will continue to stick to its responsibilities and endeavor to ease the citizens' suffering and increase their steadfastness in the face of Israeli procedures and blockade," he writes. The book was released by the de facto government's General Secretariat.

"The government in the Gaza Strip performed under dire conditions and faced political and economic challenges as well as internal and external threats aimed at blocking its progress and accomplishments," Haniyah added.

The book details the government's accomplishments in politics, security, economy, and administration in the Gaza Strip. The text says the government has kept the Palestinian national project, and the capital of Jerusalem, as a top priority.

"The government succeeded in the siege battle and a pattern in steadfastness, sacrifice and giving. Those who work make mistakes sometimes, and that was the case with us; we made mistakes and corrected them as it was not part of our policy to make mistakes," the Prime Minister writes.
