Israeli excavations below Al-Aqsa Mosque breach of Israeli-Jordanian peace treaty

[ 18/08/2008 - 05:19 PM ]

AMMAN, (PIC)--

The committee of Arab and international affairs in the Jordanian parliament stated that the Israeli excavations in the vicinity of Al-Aqsa Mosque and below it are in breach of the Israeli-Jordanian peace treaty and against all international conventions and decisions regarding the peace process.

In a press statement published on Monday, Mohamed Abu Hadeeb, the head of the parliamentary committee, underlined that the peace treaty between Amman and Tel Aviv which was concluded in 1994 includes clear texts stating that Israel should respect the Jordanian role as a guardian of the Muslim holy shrines in occupied Jerusalem.

Abu Hadeeb called on the international community and its institutions to move to stop Israel's criminal violations against the holy places and pressure it to respect the decisions of the international legitimacy.

The Israeli excavations last year led to the collapse of the Maghareba hill which prompted the IOA to submit a project plan to the UNESCO to build a new bridge in place of the one collapsed, but Jordan rejected this proposal and insisted that it is the only side empowered to supervise Al-Aqsa Mosque and its premises.

Betawi: Any foolish move against the Aqsa will have very serious repercussions

[ 18/08/2008 - 10:43 AM ]

RAMALLAH, (PIC)--

Shaikh Hamed Al-Betawi, member of the Hamas parliamentary bloc, stated Sunday that any foolish move against the Aqsa Mosque and the Islamic holy shrines in occupied Jerusalem would open doors of hell before Israel and would lead to uprisings not only in Palestine but in all Arab and Islamic countries.

On the eve of the 39th anniversary of the arson attack on Al-Aqsa Mosque, Shaikh Betawi said in a press interview that any PA or Arab agreement with the Israeli occupation giving it one inch of Al-Aqsa Mosque or its quarters is invalid because the entire Mosque belongs only to Muslims and Jews have no right to it.

The lawmaker underlined that the biggest crime the holy mosque is exposed to is that all Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza are banned by the IOA from reaching Jerusalem to perform prayers.

The lawmaker called on the Palestinians of the 1948 occupied lands to perform their prayers in Al-Aqsa Mosque especially with the approach of the holy month of Ramadan to confirm that the Mosque is Islamic and will never be one day the alleged temple.
