Diplomats, Journalists Tour Land-Grab, Apartheid Wall in Tulkarem Area

Date: 20 / 08 / 2008  Time:  18:21
Tulkarem – Ma'an –

Journalists and foreign diplomats went on a tour of the villages harmed by the Israeli Land-Grab, Apartheid Wall in the Tulkarem district of the northern West Bank Wednesday.

The tour was organized jointly by the Grassroots Campaign against the wall and the Palestinian Ministry of Information.

Jamal Juma'a, the coordinator of the Grassroots Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign said the tour aimed to expose the economic, social, and environmental impact of the wall, which often separates Palestinians from their land and from neighboring Palestinian communities.

The tour also looked at the Israeli factories that are built on occupied Palestinian land near the city.

At the end of the tour Tulkarem governor Talal Dweikat, senior security officials, and representatives of local organizations addressed the tour. The officials explained that the wall has resulted in the isolation of thousands of dunams of agricultural land, and rendered the Palestinians who work on those lands unemployed.

The couple are members of an organization called Sixty Years of Nakba (Catastrophe). They have been active in various activities in solidarity with the Palestinian people, particularly in the village of Fara'oun and Nur Shams refugee camp.
