30 killed, injured in car bomb explosion in Tala'afar

At least five people were killed and 25 others were wounded in a car bomb explosion in Tala'afar, a military source said on Tuesday.

“A car rigged with explosives went off at 4:30 p.m. near a police checkpoint in Saraya region in Tala'afar district, killing five, including a cop, and injuring 25,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

Tala'afar is located 60 km west of Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, which lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Cart bomb leaves 16 casualties in Mosul

At least four civilians were killed and 12 others were injured on Tuesday in a cart bomb explosion in northern Mosul, a police source said.

“A cart crammed with explosives went off in al-Baladiyat neighborhood in northern Mosul, killing four civilians and injuring 12,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

He gave no further details.

Police defuse 10 bombs believe to target al-Maliki

Policemen on Tuesday defused 10 bombs which are believed to have been placed to target the motorcade of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki who visited the province on Monday, the chief of the local police said.

“Anti-bomb squads defused ten explosive devices, planted by unknown gunmen on al-Houlandi river, believed to be targeting the motorcade of the al-Maliki who inaugurated a project in the province yesterday,” General Sabah al-Fatlawi told Aswat al-Iraq.

Meanwhile, he said “the Dhi-Qar police received amounts of weapons and ammunitions, including 80 mortar shells, 80 RBK rifles and 80 cannonballs as well as other weapons.”

Sticky IED kills civilian in Babel

BABEL/ Aswat al-Iraq:

A civilian on Tuesday was killed in an explosive charge attack in the northwest of Hilla city, a local police source said.

“On Tuesday, a civilian was killed when an improvised explosive device (IED) was stuck to his bike in al-Maseeb district (50 km northwest of Hilla),” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.
The source did not provide further details.

Cop wounded in gun attack in Mosul

An Iraqi policeman on Tuesday was wounded when his patrol vehicle was attacked by unknown gunmen in downtown Mosul city, according to a local security source.

“Today, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a police patrol vehicle in al-Sa’a area, downtown Mosul, wounding a patrolman who was taken the hospital for treatment,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.
Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Sahwa council leader survives assassination attempt

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

A US-recruited Sahwa council leader in Kirkuk’s Huwaija district on Tuesday escaped an attempt on his life, according to a local security source.

“On Tuesday, unknown gunmen threw a thermal grenade at his house, causing damage to it,” a source from Kirkuk’s operations room told Aswat al-Iraq.

The source noted that no casualties were reported.

Unknown body found north of Kut

WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq:

Police forces found an unidentified body with signs of torture and bullet wounds in the north of Kut city, a security source said on Tuesday.

“The body, found in eastern al-Dabouni area (55 km north of Kut) was taken to the morgue in Kut city,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad, is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra.

Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy. Prior to 1976 it was known as Kut Province.

Editor's Note:

Only God knows how many Iraqis are killed everyday. The following represents part of the reporting but readers are advised that the actual number of deaths should very much exceed what's reported.

Concerning deaths of US soldiers, only those US citizens who die in Iraq are included in the statistics. There are no published statistics about US soldiers who die of their injuries after that. There are no published statistics about the deaths or injuries of the private army soldiers (security contractors), or about those without US citizenship.

It is noteworthy that May 20, 2008 news reports showed that death squads which execute Iraqis on daily basis are no longer hiding themselves. Previously, Sunni leaders pointed to Mahdi Army and Badr militiamen as the perpetrators. Now, death squads are composed of the US-recruited Sahwa fighters and policemen.

On September 6, 2008, news reports mentioned the killing of nine Iraqis who were arrested by Al-Muthanna Brigade of the Iraqi Army stationed in the city of Al-Falloujah. There corpses were found with bullets shot on their heads and chests. This incident is evidence that the sectarian-based Iraqi forces have been functioning also as death squads, which killed Iraqis for suspicion of belonging to resistance organizations, without any legal procedures or trials.

Despite the fact that there are scores of organizations involved in the Iraq war, the Iraqi government officials prefer to refer to them as Alqaeda gunmen for propaganda purposes, as mentioned in the June 4, 2008 news report. For accuracy purposes, the term "Alqaeda gunmen" may be replaced with "Iraqi fighters."

Finally, on daily basis, US-led forces arrest scores of Iraqis in an attempt to pre-empt them from resistance. Tens of thousands of Iraqis are still there in US detention camps and in the prisons of the US-backed Iraqi government.
