PFLP secretary-general, Ahmed Sa'adat, sentenced to 30 years imprisonment by Israeli military court

Date: 25 / 12 / 2008  Time:  12:09
Bethlehem – Ma’an –

Israeli occupation forces court at Ofer detention center on Thursday sentenced the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) member, and secretary-general of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) Ahmed Sa’adat to 30 years imprisonment.

Sa’adat has released a message on Thursday before his trial at asserting that he does not recognize Israeli military courts.

“I don’t stand to defend myself before your court as I emphasized before I don’t recognize this court which is extension of occupation which international law considers illegal. Our people have the right to resist occupation, and this court is based on British emergency law of 1945 which is worse than Nazi laws,” Sa’adat’s message read.

The message added, “This court is one of tools of oppression used against the Palestinian people and resistance. Such courts indicate occupation’s failure to impose de facto against peoples. I am proud of my affiliation to the Palestinian national movement, resistance and just struggle to gain all inalienable Palestinian rights. I am proud of being elected secretary-general of the PFLP, and all I regret is that I could not continue with my duties because of detention.”
