16 Iraqis Killed, Including 8 family members in US helicopter raid, 4 in 2 Suicide blasts near Tala'afar mosque, According to February 15, 2008 News Reports


Yaqen.net reported the following news today, February 15, 2008:

- A US soldier was seriously injured by an Iraqi sniper fire south of Falloujah, other US soldiers  fired back killing two Iraqi civilian men in the area.

- The Romanian military base in the Dhi Qar Province was attacked with six katyousha rockets, two of them hit it directly, the rest landed outside the base.

- 3 Iraqi policemen were injured by gunmen fire in Basra.

The Iraq news agency (INA) reported that there were clashes between the Mahdi Army fighters and British occupation forces south of Basra, resulting in destroying a British armored vehicle.

- 37 families in Al-Ansar Najaf neighborhood were diagnosed with cancer. This alarmed city officials who evacuated the rest of the neighborhood families to a new area. An explanation of the spread of cancer was that the sewage system became mixed with the water system in the city.

2 suicide blasts near mosque in Tala'afar leave 17 casualties

Ninewa, Feb 15, (VOI) –

Four civilians were killed and 13 others wounded in two successive suicide blasts that targeted a mosque during the Friday prayers in central Tala'afar city, 60 km west of Mosul, police said. 

"A suicide bomber wearing a suicide belt was about to enter al-Sadiq mosque when suspecting policemen guarding the mosque opened fire at him but he detonated himself," Brig. Ibrahim al-Juburi, the Tala'afar police chief, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

"Five minutes later, another suicide bomber blew himself up amidst the crowds, killing four civilians and wounding 13 others, including a policeman," Juburi said. U.S. forces arrived at the scene and rushed seriously wounded people to a U.S. base in Tala'afar, he added. Mosul, the capital of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. AE

8 family members killed by U.S. copter fire southeast of Kirkuk

Kirkuk, Feb 15, (VOI) –

Eight members of the same family were killed by U.S. helicopter fire southwest of Kirkuk on Friday, an official police source said. 

"Two U.S. helicopters opened fire at a house in al-Zab area, al-Huweija district, (70 km) south of Kirkuk, killing eight civilians of the same family who were inside the house at the time," the source, who did not want his name mentioned, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

"Unidentified persons opened fire at the two U.S. helicopters, which fired back," the source said, not determining whether the attacked house was the source of the fire. "So far we are not certain whether the fire opened at the U.S. helicopters were from that house or another nearby place," indicated the source, adding the fatalities were two men, a woman and five children.  AE

Unidentified gunmen kill 9 belonging to Saddam's clan

Salah al-Din, Feb 15, (VOI) –

Unidentified gunmen killed nine members of one family in al-Ouja village, 10 km south of Tikrit, on Thursday, a security source in Salah al-Din province said, adding all of them belonged to al-Bu Nasser clan of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussain. 

"The gunmen raided the house of businessman Labib Ali al-Zidan in Ouja and killed him along with his wife and seven offspring," a source from the Salah al-Din police operations room told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI) on condition of anonymity.

"The gunmen might have used silencers in their operation because Zidan's neighbors did not hear shooting," the source said. "The police started investigating the incident and removed the bodies to the Tikrit public hospital," he added. Tikrit, the capital of Salah al-Din province, lies 175 km north of Baghdad. AE

    Mosul, Feb 14, (VOI)-

The chief of police of al-Bea'aj district was injured on Thursday when an improvised explosive device went off targeting his motorcade in western Mosul, the district’s mayor said. “A roadside bomb was detonated this morning targeting Colonel Hazem al-Jubouri, chief of al-Bea'aj police department, at the center of the district, western Mosul,” Abdul Rahim al-Shemmeri told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI). “The attack injured him along with three of his bodyguards,” the mayor added. “They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors asserted that they were in a stable condition,” he noted. Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, is 405 km north of Baghdad.   SH
