2 US Soldiers, 11 Iraqis Killed, Including 3 Executed by Death Squads, According to February 17, 2008 News Reports

Yaqen.net news agency reported that a US Hummer military vehicle was destroyed in Mosul today, killing US soldiers in it.

- One person was killed, three were injured when a US container exploded in Hitt.

- Eight Iraqi civilians were injured by mortar rounds hitting their homes in the town of Anna, west of Baghdad, as a result of military exercises by US-recruited Sahwa and Iraqi army soldiers.

Iraq news agency (INA) reported that a female suicide bomber detonated her explosive belt killing two people and injuring four, in Karradah, Baghdad today.

    Baghdad, Feb 17, (VOI) –

Three unidentified bodies were found by policemen in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Sunday, an interior ministry source said. "The bodies were found in different areas of Baghdad: Two in al-Rasafa's neighborhoods of al-Talibiya and al-Hussainiya and one in al-Baya'a neighborhood in the western part of Baghdad," the source, who preferred not to be named, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

"The three bodies showed signs of having been shot, mostly in the head," the source indicated. AE

Civilian killed by U.S. fire near Ramadi – police

    Anbar, Feb 17, (VOI) –

An Iraqi civilian was killed by U.S. soldiers' fire on the outskirts of al-Khalidiya town while the U.S. side declined to confirm or deny the reported incident, police said. "Soldiers in a U.S. patrol killed a civilian in al-Khalidiya, (20 km) east of Ramadi, on suspicion," an official police source in Anbar told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI) on condition of anonymity.

"The victim was driving a taxi cab when U.S. soldiers opened fire at him for drawing near the patrol at an intersection," the source added. VOI contacted Abdul-Latif Rayan, the Multi-National Force – Iraq (MNF-I) Media Operations Adviser, but he said he had no information on the incident. "I have not received any operational report from that area," he said. Ramadi, the capital of the predominantly Sunni province of Anbar, lies 110 km west of Baghdad. AE

U.S. army says 2 soldiers killed, 1 wounded in Diala

    Baghdad, Feb 17, (VOI) –

Two U.S. soldiers were killed and another wounded by light arms fire in the province of Diala, northeast of Baghdad, the U.S. army said on Sunday. "Two coalition soldiers were killed by light arms fire in Diala on Sunday. Another U.S. soldier was wounded and rushed to a coalition forces' medical facility for treatment," according to a U.S. army statement received by Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

The death brings the number of the U.S. troops killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003 to 3,962, according to statistics released by the U.S. army. Of this number, 18 soldiers were killed in February 2008 and 40 in January.

Mortar shell wounds 6 in Mosul

    Ninewa, Feb 17, (VOI) –

Six civilians were wounded by a mortar shell in attack followed by shooting in western Mosul on Sunday, a police source said. "The civilians were wounded when a mortar shell fell on the al-Thawra neighborhood, western Mosul, followed by shooting from unknown sources," the source, who asked not be named, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

"The civilians, who were wounded by either shrapnel from the mortar shells or bullets, were rushed to a hospital for treatment," said the source. Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. AE

Car bomb kills three, wounds two in Mosul

Mosul, Feb 17, (VOI)-

At least three people were killed and two others wounded on Sunday morning when a car bomb exploded in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, a security source said. 

"A car bomb exploded, this morning, when it was searched by a policeman in al-Hadbaa neighborhood, northern Mosul, killing the policeman and two more civilians," the source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- (VOI).

The source added "the blast also wounded two more civilians." Mosul, capital city of Ninewa province, is 405 km north of Baghdad. SK

Suicide bombing leaves four wounded in Baghdad   Baghdad - Voices of Iraq

Baghdad, Feb 17, (VOI)-

At least four people were wounded on Sunday morning in a suicide bombing near a police checkpoint in central Baghdad, a police source said. 

"A female suicide bomber detonated explosives strapped to her body near a police checkpoint in Karada, central Baghdad," the source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq-Voices of Iraq- (VOI). The source added that four people were wounded in the attack without giving further details. Karada is a crowded commercial area in central Baghdad. SK
