3 US Soldiers, 41 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, Including 4 Executed by Death Squads, According to February 20, 2008 News Reports

Yaqen.net news agency reported the following news today, which do not duplicate VOI news below:

- Australian forces will be withdrawn completely from Iraq by June 2008, According to their military commander, Angus Huoston.

- Colonel Abdul Jabbar Al-Jubouri, commander of Iraqi forces in Al-Falloujah, was killed in a roadside bomb explosion targeting his car.

- Four policemen were injured by a roadside bomb targeting their patrol in Kirkuk.

- British air bases in Basra airport was rocketed again today.

- 5 US-recruited Sahwa fighters were killed by a roadside bomb targeting their vehicle in Al-Qaem, Al-Karabila area.

- Iraqi army soldiers attacked the College of Dentistry in the Baghdad University. They arrested seven professors, after humiliating the faculty and students on campus.

The Iraq news agency (INA) reported that the following news:

- 15 Iraqi policemen were killed, 45 were injured when they discovered 8 Katyousha rockets near Baghdad airport yesterday, Tuesday. They tried to disable the rockets when the rockets exploded causing this high casualty figure. This news was not reported yesterday.

- 3 children were killed in Balad (VOI reported only one was killed), seven others were injured, who were playing soccer near a US base in the city, when the base was attacked with mortars.

- 4 policemen were killed, four others were injured in Mosul, when their vehicle was attacked by gunmen fire.

Three U.S. soldiers killed in Baghdad-army

Baghdad, Feb 20, (VOI)-

The U.S. army said on Wednesday three service members were killed when their patrol vehicle was struck with a roadside bomb in northwestern Baghdad.

"Three Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers were killed at approximately 10:30 p.m. Feb. 19 when their vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device in northwestern Baghdad," the U.S. army said in a statement received by Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- (VOI).

The press release gave no further details. The deaths bring the number of the U.S. troops killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003 to 3,966, according to statistics released by the U.S. army. Of this number, 20 U.S. soldiers have been killed so far in February 2008.

November 2004, which witnessed fierce battles between U.S. forces and armed groups in Falluja city, Anbar province, remains the month that saw the highest U.S. death toll with 137. April 2004 comes second with 135, followed by May 2007 during which 126 U.S. soldiers were killed. SK

Car bomb seriously injures civilian near Falluja

    Falluja, Feb 20, (VOI)- At least one civilian was seriously injured on Wednesday when a car bomb exploded in a market near Falluja city, 45 km west of Baghdad, a police source said. "The car bomb that was parked near al-Ikhaa market in Amiriyat al-Falluja exploded leaving a civilian seriously injured," the source, who asked to be unnamed, Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- (VOI). The source provided no further details. SK

Four unidentified bodies found in Baghdad

    Baghdad, Feb 20, (VOI)-

Iraqi police patrols on Wednesday found four unidentified corpses dumped in different parts of Baghdad, an interior ministry source said. "Two bodies were found in al-Baladiyat and al-Waziriyah neighborhoods of Baghdad's eastern side of Rasafa," the source, who asked not to be named, told Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- (VOI).

The source added that two more corpses were found in al-Saydiyah neighborhood, western Baghdad. "The bodies had gunshot wounds, mainly to the head," the source explained. SK

Mortar attack kills a child, wounds four near Balad   Salah al-Din - Voices of Iraq

    Balad, Feb 20, (VOI)-

A mortar that missed a U.S. military base near Balad town killed a child and wounded four others on Wednesday, a police source said. "A mortar round fell onto a yard where children were playing football killing one of them and seriously wounding four more," a source from Yathrib district police told Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq (VOI).

The source added "it seemed that the mortar missed the nearby U.S Camp Anaconda in Yathrib district, east of Balad town." Balad, a town within Salah al-Din province, is 70 km north of Baghdad. SK

Baghdad International Airport rocketed-source

    Baghdad, Feb 20, (VOI) –

A source from the Iraqi interior ministry said five Katyusha rockets on Wednesday afternoon fell onto Baghdad International Airport west of the Iraqi capital, while an MNF-I spokesman said he had "no information" on the attack. "Five Katyusha rockets fell onto Baghdad International Airport, this afternoon, with no reports of casualties," the source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- (VOI).

The source added that the U.S. forces sealed off all the routes leading to the airport which also used by the U.S. troops as a base. Abdul Latif Rayan, the media adviser at the Multi-national Forces, told VOI by telephone "I have no information on any attack on Baghdad airport by Wednesday afternoon." SK/SR

Suicide bombing kills 7, injures 17 in Muqdadiya

Muqdadiya, Feb 20, (VOI)-

At least seven civilians were killed and 17 more were wounded on Wednesday when a suicide bomber blew himself up in central Muqdadiya, a security source said.

“A bomber blew up an explosive belt strapped to his body in al-Asri neighborhood in central Muqdadiya, northeast of Ba'aqouba, killing seven and injuring 17,” the source, who asked anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI). Muqdadiya is 45 km northeast of Ba'aqouba, the capital of Diala, which lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad. SH

Car bomb leaves six casualties in Talafar

Mosul, Feb 20, (VOI)-

A woman and her daughter were killed and four others were injured on Wednesday in a car bomb explosion in northern Talafar, the mayor of the city said.

“The car, parked in a garage near the nationality department in al-Salam neighborhood in northern Talafar, went off this afternoon, killing a woman and her five-year daughter and injuring four, including a policeman,” Brig. Nijm Abdullah told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI).

“The car was detonated remotely,” he noted. “The bodies were sent to the forensic medicine department, while the wounded were rushed to the Talafar hospital for treatment,” he said. Talafar, Ninewa province, is 60 km west of Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, which lies 405 km north of Baghdad. SH

Explosion injures two civilians in Baghdad

Two civilians were injured on Wednesday when an explosive charge went off in central Baghdad, a police source said. “An improvised explosive device went off near al-Shaab international Stadium in central Baghdad, wounding two civilians,” the source, who wished to remain anonymous, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq (VOI).

He did not provide further details. SH  

Three policemen wounded east of Dalouiya

    Tikrit, Feb 20, (VOI)-

Three policemen were injured on Wednesday in a bomb explosion near their vehicle patrol east of Dalouiya, a police source said. “A roadside bomb was detonated targeting a police vehicle patrol near Peshiktin village, east of Dalouiya, wounding three policemen,” the source, who asked not to be named, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI).

“The explosion damaged one of the patrol’s vehicles,” he pointed out. Dalouiya, Salah el-Din, is 90 km north of Baghdad. SH

    Baghdad, Feb 20, (VOI)- The deputy minister of science and technology were injured on Wednesday morning in a bomb blast targeting his motorcade in eastern Baghdad, said a police source. “An improvised explosive device went off targeting the motorcade of Samir al-Attar, deputy minister of science and technology, in Ziyouna region in eastern Baghdad, wounding him along with two of his companions,” the source, who asked anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI).
