Police find 3 bodies in Ninewa

    Ninewa, Feb 27, (VOI) -

Police on Wednesday found three unknown corpses in Mosul, Ninewa province, a security source said. “Police found three unknown bodes riddled with bullets and dumped in the industrial Wadi Egab area, west Mosul,” a Ninewa security source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

The source pointed out “the victims were civilians from al-Baaj town, 220 km west of Mosul.” The victims’ families reported “the three came to Mosul searching for job.” Mosul, the capital of Ninewa province, lies 400 km north Baghdad AM/SR

Police find unknown body in Babel

Police patrols found an unknown corpse dumped in Babel province on Wednesday, Hilla police said. "A police patrol found an unknown body dumped in Tahmaziya village’s drainage canals, 3 km south-west of Hilla," a Babel police source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

"The corpse’s hands were bound, riddled with bullets and bore signs of torture and gunshots." Hilla, the capital of Babel province, lies 100 km south Baghdad AM/SR

Police chief escapes attempt on his life   Kirkuk - Voices of Iraq

    Kirkuk, Feb 27, (VOI) – Domiz police chief survived an assassination bid when a booby-trapped car detonated near his motorcade in northern Kirkuk city, a local official security source said on Wednesday. "Domiz police chief, Colonel Anwar Hussein, survived an attempt on his life when a booby-trapped car targeted his convoy in al-Askari neighborhood in northern Kirkuk," the source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq, Voices of Iraq, (VOI).

"The explosion did not cause any damage or casualties," the source explained. Kirkuk; an oil-rich and mixed city of Kurds, Turkmen, Christians, and Arabs, lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.   SS/SR  

Veteran journalist dies in Baghdad

Iraqi Press Syndicate chief Shihab al-Tamimi died of wounds sustained from an attack carried out by unknown gunmen in Baghdad four days ago, a union source said on Wednesday.

"Shihab al-Tamimi died from wounds he sustained from attacks a few days ago," Muayid al-Lami, the secretary of the Iraqi Press Syndicate, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

On Saturday, unidentified gunmen opened fire on Tamimi in al-Waziriya neighborhood, central Baghdad, while he was leaving the syndicate’s building to attend cultural activity nearby, seriously wounding him.

A celebrated Iraqi journalist, a septuagenarian Tamimi has won the recent syndicate elections that were held in July 2003, after the fall of the former regime.
He belongs to a peasant family that lived in a village in the southern Iraqi city of al-Nassiriya, the capital of Dhi Qar, 380 km south of Baghdad.

He is married and has two children in addition to his firstborn Rabie from a deceased spouse.
During his career, he wrote a number of satirical, business, and social writings. He hid for a while after receiving death threats in 2005, but resumed his job after taking guarantees and pledges from politicians to protect journalists from random assassinations.

Car bomb kills two civilians, wounds one in Mosul

Mosul, Feb 27, (VOI)-

Two civilians were killed and one was injured on Wednesday in a car bomb explosion in eastern Mosul, the official spokesman for the Ninewa operations said.

"A car crammed with explosives went off this afternoon targeting a police vehicle patrol in al-Karama region in eastern Mosul, killing two civilians and wounding another one," Brig. Khaled Abdul Sattar told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI).
"The bodies were sent to the forensic medicine department, while the wounded was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment," he also said.
Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, is 405 km north of Baghdad.

Civilian wounded by bomb blast in Baghdad

Baghdad, Feb 27, (VOI)-

A civilian was injured on Wednesday in a roadside bomb explosion in southeastern Baghdad, the commander of the Baghdad's operations said.

"An improvised explosive device, planted by unknown gunmen near Sahet Misloun in southeastern Baghdad, went off, wounding one civilian," General Qassem Atta told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI).

"The blast caused some material damage to nearby vehicles," he explained.
