    Tikrit, Feb 5, (VOI)- Feb 5, (VOI)-

Unknown gunmen killed a mosque imam in central Samarra on Tuesday, a police source said. "Three unknown gunmen opened fire at Sheikh Essam Fleih Hassani, al-Mukhtar mosque imam, in Armoushiya neighborhood in central Samarra, killing him instantly," the source, who preferred to be unnamed, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

The source pointed out "Hassani is a member of the Sunni Association of Muslim Scholars (AMS) and is renowned for his opposition to some armed groups, mainly al-Qaeda in Samarra." Samarra, Salah el-Din province, lies 120 km north of Baghdad AM/SH

Samarra, Feb 5, (VOI)-

(US-recruited) Support Council forces in Salah el-Din, in cooperation with the local police, discovered 55 bodies in a mass grave in western Samarra, while 10 Iraqi hostages were released during the operation, the head of the Samarra Support Council said on Tuesday.

    Baghdad, Feb 5, (VOI)-

Iraqi police patrols found on Tuesday four unidentified bodies dumped in different parts of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, an interior ministry source said. "Police patrols found four unknown corpses dumped in various parts of Baghdad," the source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq -Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

"Three bodies were found in al-Shaab, Ur and Jisr Diala neighborhoods in Baghdad's eastern side of Rasafa, while the fourth body was found in al-Washash neighborhood, western Baghdad," the source added. "The bodies found bore signs of gunshot wounds to different parts of the body, mainly to the head," he noted. SH

Chief of the Diala police department General Ghanem al-Qureshi escaped an attempt on his life on Tuesday when an improvised explosive device went off targeting his motorcade in central Baaquba, a police source said.

Falluja, Feb 5, (VOI)-

A suicide bomber blew himself up on Tuesday at a checkpoint of the (USrecruited) Awakening Council in eastern Falluja, killing five and injuring four, a leader from the Anbar Awakening Council said.

"A suicide bomber blew up an explosive belt strapped to his body at a checkpoint on Zeraa Degla-Karama road in eastern Falluja, killing five Awakening Council fighters and seriously injuring four," the leader, who asked anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI). The Awakening Councils are anti-Qaeda fighters working in coordination with the Multi-National Force-Iraq (MNF-I) and the Iraqi government. Falluja, Anbar province, is 45 km west of Baghdad. SH

Police kill al-Qaeda gunman in Ninewa

    Mosul, Feb 5, (VOI)-

Police forces killed al-Qaeda gunman on Tuesday south of Mosul, the official spokesman for the Ninewa operations said. "A gunman of al-Qaeda armed group was killed by police forces in Hamam al-Aleel region, south of Mosul," Brigadier Khaled Abdul Sattar told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

"The gunman had managed to escape from the city of Mosul to Hamam al-Aleel, but the forces stormed his hideout and killed him," he explained. The Iraqi government had deployed a large number of Iraqi forces in Mosul in preparation to wage "a crucial battle" against armed groups. Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, is 405 km north of Baghdad. Three army officers killed in Missan

    Amara, Feb 5, (VOI)-

Armed groups on Tuesday morning killed three army officers in separate areas of Missan, a security source said. "An Iraqi army colonel was killed this morning by armed groups at his house in al-Askari neighborhood in central Amara," the source, who preferred to remain anonymous, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI). "The armed groups killed also an Iraqi army major in al-Amarat al-Jadida neighborhood in central Amara as well as a lieutenant who was driving his car in al-Aurouba region at the center of the city," he added. Amara, the capital of Missan, lies 390 km south of Baghdad. SH  

U.S. army confirms killing 3 family members east of Tikrit

Salah al-Din, Feb 5, (VOI) –

Three people of the same family were killed by U.S. fire east of Tikrit city on Tuesday as confirmed by the U.S. side, a police source in al-Dor district, Salah al-Din province, said.

"A U.S. force killed three persons of one family in al-Dor, (15 km) southeast of Tikrit, and rushed two others wounded to a U.S. military hospital," the source, who declined to have his name mentioned, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

"Tipped by a local resident on three bodies inside a house in al-Dor district, the police found the corpses of a man and his wife and son. The bodies showed signs of having been shot in the head," the source said.

"The residents in the area heard fire shot and watched U.S. vehicles leaving the scene," he added. Abdul-Latif Rayan, Advisor at Media Operations of the coalition forces, told VOI "during an intelligence-driven operation near Tikrit this morning, coalition forces came under small-arms fire as they entered a building.

The soldiers returned fire in self-defense, killing two men. A woman was also killed and a young girl was wounded." "The Multi-National Force - Iraq regrets the loss of an innocent civilian and the wounding of the child, who is currently receiving medical care," said Rayan, adding the incident is under investigation. Tikrit, the capital of Salah al-Din province, lies 175 km north of Baghdad. AE

Iraqi police patrols found two unidentified bodies dumped in different parts of the Iraqi capital Baghdad in the last 24 hours, an interior ministry source said on Monday. "Police patrols found two unknown corpses dumped in various parts of Baghdad," the source, who asked to remain unnamed, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

"One body was found in Baghdad's eastern neighborhood of al-Sha'ab, while the second was found in al-Houriya neighborhood, western Baghdad," the source added. "The bodies found bore signs of gunshot wounds to different parts of the body, mainly to the head," he noted. SH/SR

Three Iraqi soldiers were killed when an improvised explosive device went off targeting an armored vehicle in northern Baghdad, a police source said. "A roadside bomb was detonated targeting an Iraqi armored vehicle in al-Azamiya region in northern Baghdad, killing three soldiers inside," the source, who asked to remain anonymous, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI). An eyewitness said "the bomb was placed under the vehicle near a checkpoint and exploded, killing three soldiers.” SH/SR

25 al-Qaeda gunmen killed, detained in Diala

    Baaquba, Feb 4, (VOI)-

Fifteen al-Qaeda gunmen were killed and 10 more were detained during joint operations launched by U.S. and Iraqi forces in three villages north of Baaquba, the commander of the Diala operations said.

"Five al-Qaeda gunmen were killed and ten others were arrested during joint operations waged in al-Tabi, Qalaat Qassab and Homiera villages in al-Salam district in Khalis, north of Baaquba," General Abdul Karim al-Rubaei told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI). "Clashes near al-Tahwiela region in al-Salam left 10 al-Qaeda elements dead," he added. Baaquba, the capital of Diala, is 57 km northeast of Baghdad. SH/SR
