9 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, More Arrests of Ansar Al-Mahdi, According to Initial January 26, 2008 News Reports

 

Yaqen.net news agency reported the following on January 26, 2008:

- Members of Ansar Al-Mahdi group, who are detained in government prisons have been mistreated and detained in inhumane conditions. Campaigns to arrest members of the group, headed by Ahmed Al-Yamani, have been launched in Basra and other southern cities.

    Diala, Jan 26, (VOI) – Three gunmen were killed and two senior members of al-Qaeda network were arrested in operations targeting the armed group along the Tigris River Valley, the U.S. army said on Saturday. "The Multi-National Force (MNF) troops killed three terrorists southwest of Samarra city on Friday," according to a U.S. army statement received by Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

Body of worker found in Sulaimaniya

    Sulaimaniya, Jan 26, (VOI) –

Policemen in Sulaimaniya province found the body of a worker in one of the villages of the district of Qora Dagh, a police source said on Saturday. "Sulaimaniya policemen found on Friday night the body of a 27-year-old worker showing signs of having been shot in Qora Dagh, southwest of Sulaimaniya," the source, who refused to be named, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

"The killed man was an inhabitant of Karbala province, (108 km) southwest of Baghdad, and came to Sulaimaniya for work," the source said, giving no further details. Thousands of people inhabiting central and southern Iraq provinces went to the cities of Iraqi Kurdistan region, which enjoys relative calm and stability, to escape acts of violence that erupted after the year 2003 and also to seek job opportunities. The Kurdish province of Sulaimaniya lies 364 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. AE

A joint U.S.-Iraqi force killed five members of al-Qaeda organization in northeastern Ba'aqouba city under a three-week old security operation in the province, a police source said on Saturday.
