Abbas introduces Iraqi president Talabani to the Israeli occupation government war minister Ehud Barak

Abbas introduces Iraqi president to Israeli minister

[ 02/07/2008 - 09:03 AM ]

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)--

US-back Palestinian Authority chief, Mahmoud Abbas, introduced the US-backed Iraqi president, Jalal Al-Talbani, to Israeli occupation government war minister, Ehud Barak, during the recent conference for so-called "socialist international" (a Zionist-controlled forum of pseudo leftist parties) in Athens, press reports said.

Hebrew daily Ha'aretz said that Talbani warmly shook hands with Barak in the presence of Abbas, describing their meeting as "historic".

A statement for the Iraqi president's bureau said that Abbas was the one who introduced the president to Barak, and added that Talbani dealt with the matter in his capacity as deputy chairman of the "Socialist International" and as the secretary-general of the national Kurdistan party and not as president of Iraq.

It said that what took place was a "civilized behavior" that did not carry any more meaning and did not reflect a change in the country's position in support of the "Palestinian people and the Palestinian Authority based on Arab unanimity and international resolutions".

Sources close to the Ba'ath party in Iraq denounced the incident, saying it proved the "strong relations between occupation tools in Iraq and the Zionist entity".

The sources said that the incident also pointed to the cooperation between the two parties especially in the intelligence and economic fields.
