Palestinian MPs denounce kidnapping of MP Mansour, ask PA to stop negotiations

[ 21/07/2008 - 05:53 PM ]

RAMALLAH, (PIC)--

Palestinian parliament members on Monday reacted angrily to the Israeli occupation authority's kidnapping of one of their female colleagues, Mona Mansoor, in Nablus earlier today and demanded an immediate stop to all negotiations with the IOA.

MP Khaleda Jarrar, who is a PFLP politburo member, said that the detention of Mansour and a big number of citizens, businessmen and students in Nablus falls in line with the "rabid" campaign waged by the "fascist" Israeli government against Nablus city.

She asked the PA to immediately act to confront the Israeli campaign, and demanded a halt to security coordination and "futile negotiations" that the IOA exploits to continue in its aggression and crimes.

For his part, MP Ayman Daraghma told PIC that the kidnapping of Mansour posed as a big "challenge" to the unconstitutional government led by Salam Fayyad.

He said that the PA in Ramallah did not budge to confront the Israeli "security" campaign against Nablus that has been ongoing for weeks.

The MP said that the campaign primarily targets Hamas and its institutions and political, social, economic and academic figures in the West Bank.

He opined that the best response to such a campaign was the immediate return to national dialog to end internal discord.

Another MP, Emad Nofal, said from his Israeli prison cell that the abduction of Mansour was in continuation of the Israeli assault on Palestinian democracy.

He appealed to Arab and world parliamentarians to launch an international campaign to isolate the Hebrew state for violating international laws and norms and for committing daily crimes against the Palestinian people.

The office of Mansour issued a statement calling for filing a lawsuit at the international court of justice against Israel for kidnapping Palestinian lawmakers, and asked the world community to end the "Israeli farce" and to immediately release the representatives of the Palestinian people.

The Ahrar center for prisoners' studies denounced the abduction of Mansour in a statement on Monday, adding that the IOF troops wreaked havoc in the lawmaker's home before taking her away in chains.

It noted that Mansour enjoys immunity in her capacity as a member of parliament, and underlined that Mansour, who is a widow, was about to commemorate the assassination anniversary of her husband Jamal Mansour at the hands of IOF on 31/7/2001.

Khuraisha: Kidnapping MP Mansour shame on occupation

[ 22/07/2008 - 09:17 AM ]

TULKAREM, (PIC)--

Dr. Hassan Khuraisha, the second deputy PLC speaker, has charged that the Israeli occupation authority's kidnapping of MP Mona Mansour was a shame on this authority that kidnaps the second female MP within the past few months.

Khuraisha in a press statement on Monday said that the kidnapping was meant to get the Palestinian people and their political leadership used to detaining female MPs.

He asked PA chief Mahmoud Abbas to adopt steps to end the kidnapping of those female lawmakers and to condemn "these unjustified measures on the part of occupation".

He also appealed to the human rights groups and world parliaments to step in and prevent occupation from such practice.

Mona Mansour, a widow whose husband was assassinated by Israel, is the sole breadwinner of a big family that includes a chronically ill son who is in constant need of her care, the MP underlined.

Khuraisha said that targeting Nablus city, in which Mansour was abducted along with 25 citizens including students and businessmen on Tuesday, was deliberate in its capacity as the economic capital of Palestine.
