Iran Discovers New Oilfield in Southwest, 2nd Iran Gas Forum Opens in Tehran

Iran Discovers New Oilfield in Southwest

June 15, 2008

TEHRAN (FNA)-

Iran has discovered an oilfield with estimated reserves of 750 million barrels within its southwestern Jofeir oilfield, Oil Minister Gholam Hossein Nozari said on Saturday.

"We have done new drilling in Jofeir and have discovered a new oilfield with an in-place reserve of 750 million barrels," the oil ministry's news website SHANA quoted Nozari as saying.

Nozari said with the new discovery Jofeir's output would reach 33,000 barrels per day, from the 25,000 barrels previously reported.

OPEC member Iran has in the past put its oil reserves at 138 billion barrels.
Iran, the world's fourth largest crude oil exporter, said in September it had signed a $450 million contract with Belarus for Minsk to extract 40,000 barrels of oil per day from its Jofeir oilfield.

2nd Iran Gas Forum Opens in Tehran

June 15, 2008

TEHRAN (FNA)-

The two-day conference of the '2nd Iran Gas Forum' opened here in Tehran on Saturday.

The opening session of the Forum was attended by Iran's Oil Minister Gholam Hossein Nozari and Deputy Minister and Managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Reza Kasaeezadeh.

In his inaugural speech, Nozari pointed to Iran's regional and international role in market supply, and said Nabucco gas pipeline would be meaningless without Iran's participation.

He also stressed the need for Iran to increase its share of the world gas market to 10%, saying that the goal, which is high on the agenda of his ministry, could be attained by adjusting the country's domestic consumption.

"If we mange our natural gas resource well we can have a more serious role in the economic development of the country and in creating a booming industry," he said.

The '2nd Iran Gas Forum', attended by the country's high-ranking officials, energy specialists and experts, aims to help Iran secure an additional market share by enhancing the available information on both energy investment and growing global gas demands.

The conference also seeks to provide a proper framework for gas-related research and development activities.

Among the topics scheduled to go under discussion at the gathering are industrial management, gas exploration and production, refining processes and treatment, transmission and distribution, methods of supply in consumption peaks, optimization of consumption, industrial protection and corrosion.

Human resources, executive management and strategic planning as well as
health, safety and the environment are also on the agenda of the conference.
