Swiss lawmaker, Daniel Vischer, says Europe's silence towards the Israeli siege of Gaza is shameful

[ 16/06/2008 - 04:58 PM ]

BRUSSELS, (PIC)--

MP Daniel Vischer, the head of the Switzerland-Palestine association (SPA), stated that the passive attitude of the European governments towards what is happening in the Gaza Strip in particular and the Palestinian cause in general is shameful.

MP Vischer, a member of the Swiss green party, added that the moves made by the pro-Israel pressure groups inside the EU have the strongest influence on the European politicians' attitude towards the Palestinian issues.

He noted that the absence of a genuine European desire to put pressure on Israel in addition to the silence of the international community are the reasons for the continuation of the siege on Gaza.

The IOA had banned Vischer and one of his colleagues from entering the besieged Gaza Strip during a visit in mid-June to explore the latest developments there because of his positions in support of the Palestinian rights.

Amin Abu Rashid, the head of the European campaign to lift the siege, had said that this Israeli siege with all its cruelty, injustice and horror, is a blot on the international community, adding that European moral balance declines every day because of its silence towards the Israeli siege.
