Date: 27 / 06 / 2008  Time:  11:00
Bethlehem – Ma'an -

Israeli press sources said that the head of Shabak, the Israeli occupation government internal security services, Yofal Diskin has approved the release of a number of Palestinian detainees, alleged to have been involved in the killing of Israelis.

Under Diskin's proposal, which is part of the prisoner exchange deal with Hamas, the detainees will be deported from the West Bank to the Gaza Strip or abroad.

Diskin's proposal is supported by Israeli government Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's representative for the return of kidnapped soldiers Ofer Dekel, Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak and Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi.

Forty-two Palestinians were deported from the West Bank after a 2002 standoff between the Israeli army and Palestinian resistance fighters in the Nativity Church in Bethlehem. 28 were exiled to the Gaza Strip and 14 to Europe.
