24 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, According to Initial March 2, 2008 News Reports

Yaqen.net reported the following news today:

- An Iraqi child was killed in a US air raid on Samarra today.
- US forces detonated a found car bomb in a Mosul street, which resulted in injuring three Iraqis.
-  Four US soldiers were injured when their Hummer vehicle was attacked by Al-Ishrin Brigades in Baghdad.
- Muhammed Obaid Al-Dulaimi, a fighter belonging to Ishrin Brigades, was killed on Friday.

Civilian killed by gunmen in central Ba'aqouba

    Diala, Mar 2, (VOI) –

A civilian was killed by unidentified gunmen in central Ba'aqouba on Sunday, a security source in Diala said. "One civilian man was killed when unidentified gunmen opened fire at him in al-Anaskha area, central Ba'aqouba," the source, who refused to be named, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

Diala has witnessed security unrest recently as kidnappings and killings arose in the troubled province after months of calm. Ba'aqouba, the capital of Diala, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad. AE  

Clashes in Talafar leave 27 casualties

Ninewa, Mar 2, (VOI) –

Fifteen people were killed and 12 others wounded in clashes that erupted on Sunday between security forces and gunmen believed to belong to al-Qaeda network in Talafar district, 60 km west of Mosul, an official spokesman said.

"The Talafar police managed to kill 13 gunmen and wound eight others in clashes in the area of al-Jabban, Talafar," the spokesman for the Ninewa operations command, Brig. Khaled Abdul-Sattar, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

"The eight wounded gunmen were arrested and are currently under investigations," Abdul-Sattar said. "Two policemen were killed and four others wounded in the confrontations. A police vehicle was set ablaze," he added. The clashes broke out when a police force was raiding al-Jabbana area in search of wanted men, he said, noting the gunmen opened fire, prompting the raiding force to fire back.

"The police seized hand grenades, missiles and other weapons," he said. Mosul, the capital of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. AE

Gunman killed in central Kirkuk

    Kirkuk, Mar 2, (VOI) –

A security force killed a key gunman belonging to an armed group during a security raid in central Kirkuk on Sunday, an official security source said. "The force, tipped on a gunman blackmailing a civilian for a ransom, ambushed and killed the gunman near a garage," the source, who asked not to have his name mentioned, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

"The gunman was a prominent leader in an armed group," the source said, not giving further details about the incident or the organization to which the gunman belonged. Kirkuk, a city of mixed Shiite, Sunni, Kurdish, Turcoman and Assyrian population, lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. AE

Blast kills five civilians, wounds four in Diala

Diala, Mar 2, (VOI)-

At least five civilians were killed and four others were wounded on Sunday morning as an explosive charge exploded in Diala, central Iraq, a security source said. 

"A roadside bomb went off near a minibus on the main road in al-Wajihiyah district, killing five civilians and wounding four," the source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- (VOI). The source provided no further details. Diala is 57 km northeast of Baghdad. SK
