US Soldier, 16 Iraqis Killed, Including 5 Executed by Death Squads, 6 Civilians Killed by US Forces, According to March 20, 2008 News Reports

U.S. serviceman killed in Diala

One U.S. soldier was killed on Wednesday as a result of a vehicle rollover in Diala, the U.S. army said.
“A Coalition Force Soldier was killed as a result of a vehicle rollover in Diala on March 19,” the army said in a statement received by Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI).

“The incident is currently under investigation,” it noted, adding no more details.
The death brings the number of the U.S. troops killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003 to 3,991 according to statistics released by the U.S. army.

Two rocket attacks wound 2 cops, 2 civilians in Baghdad

A rocket attack on Thursday wounded .two civilians in a residential area of Baghdad, an interior ministry source said.
“A Katyusha rocket landed in al-Mashtal neighbourhood, south-east Baghdad, wounding two civilians and leaving material damage to one of the houses”, an interior ministry source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq-Voices of Iraq (VOI) .

Meanwhile, the source noted “two policemen were wounded when a mortar round fell on their patrol stationing near al-Jadiriya bridge, south-west Baghdad”.
He added "the attack left two policemen wounded and caused damage to one of their vehicles”,
Police sealed off the incident areas and denied access to people and vehicles

Police patrols find 3 unknown bodies in Baghdad

Police patrol found Thursday three unknown corpses dumped in Baghdad, an Interior ministry source said.
“Police patrols discovered three unknown bodies dumped in different parts of Baghdad”, an Interior ministry source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq-Voices of Iraq (VOI).

The source pointed out “two bodies were found in Al-Waziriya and Bab al-Sheikh neighbourhoods, east Baghdad, while the third was in al-Elam neighbourhood, west Baghdad”.
The source added “the bodies were riddled with gunshots in different parts of the body and mainly to the head”.

Unknown gunmen on Thursday killed two policemen in Mosul, north Iraq, A Ninewa security source said.
“Unknown gunmen opened fire on a police patrol car parking in Boursa district, western Mosul, leaving two policemen killed”.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 400 km north Baghdad

One policeman killed by gunmen in Kut

Wassit, Mar. 20, (VOI) –

One policeman was killed on Thursday by gunfire from unknown armed men at the center of Kut city.
"Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a policeman, near to Al-Batol Hospital – city center, killing him immediately," a security source at Wassit police told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI) on condition on anonymity.

He added that gunmen escaped, and were not identified.
The source explained that deceased policeman's corpse was transferred to Kut's morgue, and Wassit police have iniated an investigation regarding the incident.
Kut, capital city of Wassit province, is 180 km southeast of Baghdad – capital city of Iraq.

2 cops killed, wounded in Mosul

Mosul, Mar 20, (VOI) -

One policeman was killed on Thursday when an explosive charge went off targeting his vehicle patrol in eastern Mosul, while another policeman was injured in a car bomb explosion at the northern section of the city, a police source said.

“An improvised explosive device went off in al-Nabi Younes region in eastern Mosul targeting a police vehicle patrol, killing a cop,” the source, who asked not to be named, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

“Another policeman was wounded when a police force detonated a car bomb, parked in al-Sukar neighborhood, northern Mosul,” he added.
“The police detonated the car remotely, however the cop was wounded,” he explained.
Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, is 405 km north of Baghdad.

U.S. army kills 6 civilians near Samarra

Samarra, Mar 20, (VOI)-

Six civilians were killed when the U.S. army shelled their vehicle near Samarra, while U.S. forces said that they targeted a number of suspected gunmen in southwest Samarra, a police source said on Thursday.

“A U.S. aircraft on Wednesday opened fire on a civilian vehicle on the main road linking between Samarra and Tikrit, killing six civilians,” the source, who preferred to remain anonymous, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq –(VOI).

“Coalition forces targeted several suspected improvised explosive device
emplacers southwest of Samarra Wednesday,” Abdullatif Rayan, the media advisor for the Multi-National Force (MNF) in Iraq, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

Two policemen wounded in Diwaniya attack

Diwaniya, Mar 20, (VOI)-

Two policemen were wounded in an attack by unidentified gunmen on an Iraqi security center in Diwaniya, south of Baghdad, while two suspects were arrested on alleged connection to the attack, a police source said. 

"A security centre came last night under an attack with RPGs by unidentified gunmen in al-Wahda quarter, southern Diwaniya, wounding two policemen," Colonel Ghassan Mohammed told Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq- (VOI).
