17 Iraqis Killed, Including 4 Executed by Death Squads, US Base and Vehicle Attacked, According to March 5, 2008 News Reports

Yaqen.net reported the following news:

- 2 policemen were killed by gunmen fire in Mosul.
- 4 guards of the Badoosh, west of Mosul, prison were killed by gunmen.
- 2 US-recruited Sahwa fighters were killed in Balad.
- A former senior officer of the Iraqi army was killed by US forces in Al-Anbar.
- Al-Ishreen Brigades attacked the Bakr US base with three mortars and destroyed a US Hummer in Yathreb, north of Baghdad.

Police find 4 unknown bodies in Baghdad

Police patrols on Wednesday found four unknown corpses dumped in Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source said.
"Police patrols discovered four unknown bodies in different parts of Baghdad," an Interior Ministry source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

The source pointed out "three corpses were found in western Baghdad-Karkh, two of them were in Amiriya."

"The third body was discovered in Sheikh Marouf, west Baghdad, while the fourth body was in Al-Shaab, east Baghdad," he added.
The source noted "the bodies bore signs of gunshots to different part of the body, mainly to the head."

Unknown gunmen kill university teacher in Kirkuk

Unknown gunmen on Wednesday killed a teacher from Kirkuk University in the northern Iraqi volatile city, police said.

"Unknown gunmen shot dead Doctor Abdel Sattar Tahir Sharif, an academic teacher at Kirkuk University in Shoraw district, 10 km north-eastern Kirkuk," a Kirkuk police source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

Sharif, 75-years-old, founded the pro-government Kurdistan's revolutionary party in the mid-1970s and was a former minister of Public works and Municipalities.

Wanted man killed in Salah el-Din

The Quick Intervention Forces killed the first wanted man in the assassination of a senior police officer last year by unknown gunmen, a source in Salah el-Din province said on Wednesday.
"Quick Intervention Forces in Salah el-Din on Tuesday night opened fire at Ahmad Hamid al-Junabi, the first wanted man in the assassination of Colonel Ismail Jijan, the forces' commander, killing him on the spot in Baiji district," the source told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI) on condition of anonymity.

Last year, unidentified armed men killed Commander of the Quick Intervention Forces Colonel Ismail Jijan in Salah el-Din in northern Iraq.
"The body was sent to the forensic medicine department," he added.
Tikrit, the capital of Salah el-Din, is 175 km north of Baghdad.

2 simultaneous blasts injure 2 civilians in Baghdad

Baghdad, Mar 5, (VOI)-

Two civilians were injured on early Wednesday in two simultaneous blasts that ripped through southern Baghdad, said a police source.
"Two improvised explosive devices went off simultaneously in al-Zaafaraniya district in southern Baghdad, injuring two civilians," the source told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq (VOI).

"One of the two blasts targeted a police vehicle patrol," he added.
"The explosion caused material damage to the vehicle, and the wounded were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment," the source also said.
He did not provide further details.

Five family members killed, injured near Kirkuk

Kirkuk, Mar 5, (VOI)-

Two civilians were killed and three others from the same family were injured in an armed attack in Touz Khormato, southwest of Kirkuk, on Wednesday, a police source said.

"Unknown gunmen stormed a house in a village in Touz Khormato, southwest of Kirkuk, killing two and injuring three of the same family," the source, who requested anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq- Voices of Iraq (VOI).

"The armed men used machine guns in the attack," he noted, adding no further details.
Kirkuk is 250 km northeast of Baghdad.
