- A US Hummer military vehicle was destroyed in West Baghdad, members of its crew were killed in an attack by members of the former Iraqi Army General Command.

Amsi.org reported that Azeri forces announced that it will complete its withdrawal from Iraq before the year end.

Bomb explodes near security official’s house in Kirkuk

A bomb exploded on Tuesday near the house of a security official in southern Kirkuk, the chief of local police said.

“An explosive device, planted near the house of Colonel Jamal Fares, the deputy director of the districts police, in al-Askari neighborhood in southern Kirkuk, went off at 6:00 p.m., causing severe material damage,” Brigadier Sarhad Qader told Aswat al-Iraq.

“The colonel was at his house when the bomb went off and he was not hurt,” he added.

Coalition forces kill Katai’b Hezbollah gunman

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Coalition forces killed a suspected Katai’b Hezbollah member and arrested two others during separate operations on Tuesday morning in Baghdad’s Adhamiyah district, the Multi-National Forces said in a statement.

“Acting on intelligence information, Coalition forces targeted a key Katai’b Hezbollah leader, believed to be responsible for recent attacks against Iraqi citizens and Iraqi and Coalition forces,” said the statement received by Aswat al-Iraq.

6 people injured by roadside bomb blast in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Six persons were wounded on Tuesday in a bomb explosion in southeastern Baghdad, a police source said.

“An explosive charge went off in al-Zaafaraniya region in southeastern Baghdad, targeting a police vehicle patrol, injuring six, including three policemen,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

Baghdad is the capital of Iraq and Baghdad province. With a municipal population estimated at 7,000,000, it is the largest city in Iraq. It is the second largest city in the Arab world (after Cairo) and the second largest city in southwest Asia (after Tehran).

U.S. embassy investigates child’s death incident

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

The U.S. embassy in Baghdad said on Tuesday that it is investigating the death of a child who was hit by one of its reconstruction teams’ vehicles in Nassiriya in southern Iraq.

“The vehicle of one of the reconstruction team’s employees hit a child on Monday afternoon in Nassiriya city,” the embassy said in a statement received by Aswat al-Iraq.

“The child was sent to a U.S. medical facility and died on his way, and a U.S embassy team will investigate the incident in coordination with the Iraqi officials,” it added.

The embassy expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as painful.

Mosul car bomb leaves 15 civilians wounded

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Fifteen civilians were wounded when a car bombing attack targeted a police patrol near the Ninewa province’s Youths & Sports Department in central Mosul on Tuesday, police said.

“The attack occurred in the area of Dawwasa, central Mosul, leaving 15 civilians, including 11 staff from the department, injured,” a security source told Aswat al-Iraq.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

6 civilians wounded in Baghdad blast

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Six civilians, including a number of Iraqi electricity ministry staff, were wounded when an improvised explosive device went off near a ministry vehicle in central Baghdad on Tuesday, police said.

“An IED blew up near an electricity ministry vehicle, close to the al-Khayyam building in al-Khillani square, central Baghdad, wounding six civilians including a number of ministry staff,” a police source told Aswat al-Iraq.

Earlier in the day, a security source said three civilians were killed and 17 others wounded when two improvised explosive devices went off consecutively in eastern Baghdad.

Policeman killed in central Amara

MISSAN / Aswat al-Iraq:

A policeman was killed by unidentified gunmen in central al-Amara city on Tuesday, a security source in Missan province said.

“Unknown gunmen opened fire at a Missan Police Command’s Quick Intervention Corps personnel in al-Majidiya area, central Amara, killing him instantly,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

“The policeman’s body was removed to the morgue of al-Sadr Public Hospital in Amara,” the source added, not giving more details.

2 blasts in Baghdad leave 20 casualties

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three civilians were killed and 17 others wounded when two improvised explosive devices went off consecutively in eastern Baghdad on Tuesday morning, police said.

“Two nearly synchronized IED blasts ripped through al-Mustansiriya square, eastern Baghdad, near a gathering of newspaper vendors, leaving three civilians killed and 17 others injured,” an Iraqi police source told Aswat al-Iraq.

“The explosions also caused damage to nearby stores,” he added.

Earlier, eyewitnesses had told Aswat al-Iraq that blasts expected to be resulting from IEDs had rocked al-Mustansiriya and left casualties.

Editor's Note:

Only God knows how many Iraqis are killed everyday. The following represents part of the reporting but readers are advised that the actual number of deaths should very much exceed what's reported.

Concerning deaths of US soldiers, only those US citizens who die in Iraq are included in the statistics. There are no published statistics about US soldiers who die of their injuries after that. There are no published statistics about the deaths or injuries of the private army soldiers (security contractors), or about those without US citizenship.

It is noteworthy that May 20, 2008 news reports showed that death squads which execute Iraqis on daily basis are no longer hiding themselves. Previously, Sunni leaders pointed to Mahdi Army and Badr militiamen as the perpetrators. Now, death squads are composed of the US-recruited Sahwa fighters and policemen.

On September 6, 2008, news reports mentioned the killing of nine Iraqis who were arrested by Al-Muthanna Brigade of the Iraqi Army stationed in the city of Al-Falloujah. There corpses were found with bullets shot on their heads and chests. This incident is evidence that the sectarian-based Iraqi forces have been functioning also as death squads, which killed Iraqis for suspicion of belonging to resistance organizations, without any legal procedures or trials.

Despite the fact that there are scores of organizations involved in the Iraq war, the Iraqi government officials prefer to refer to them as Alqaeda gunmen for propaganda purposes, as mentioned in the June 4, 2008 news report. For accuracy purposes, the term "Alqaeda gunmen" may be replaced with "Iraqi fighters."

Finally, on daily basis, US-led forces arrest scores of Iraqis in an attempt to pre-empt them from resistance. Tens of thousands of Iraqis are still there in US detention camps and in the prisons of the US-backed Iraqi government.
