- Issa Al-Mussawi, Secretary-General of the ruling Dawa Party of Al-Maliki, was assassinated in Baghdad.

- A body of a man was found in Kirkuk road, and a body of a woman was found in Mosul. Both were murdered.

- Three murdered bodies were also found south of Al-Falloujah.

3 army personnel killed, wounded in traffic accident

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

An Iraqi serviceman was killed and two others were wounded in a road accident south of Kirkuk city, a senior police source said on Thursday.

“A soldier was killed and two others, including an army officer, Brig. Younis Zibari, were wounded in a road traffic accident near Daqouq district (35 km south of Kirkuk),” a local police chief, Brig. Sarhad Qader, told Aswat al-Iraq.

The wounded were taken to the hospital for treatment, Brig. Qader noted, providing no further details.

Blast rocks Baghdad market; 5 wounded

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Five civilians on Thursday were wounded in an explosion that ripped through a market in northeastern Baghdad, according to a police source.

“On Thursday evening, an improvised explosive device (IED) placed inside a garbage can detonated inside Shalal Market in al-Shaab area, wounding five civilians,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

The explosion caused damage to several nearby shops and buildings, the source noted.

Female student shot outside university

WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq: A female university student on Thursday was shot as she left campus in downtown Kut city, according to a local police source.

“On Thursday, a student of the Faculty of Education, Wassit University, was shot and taken to al-Karama Hospital in Kut for treatment,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

Investigations are currently underway to reveal the motivations behind the incident, the source noted.

Civilian killed, 4 wounded in fourth explosion in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

A civilian was killed and four others were wounded in a bomb explosion in central Baghdad, the fourth of its kind on Thursday, a police source said.

“An explosive charge was detonated near Imam Abdul Qader al-Kilani shrine in central Baghdad, killing a civilian and injuring four,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

“The explosion caused material damage to two civilian cars and light damage to nearby buildings,” he noted.

Three earlier blasts jolted the capital earlier, killing two and wounding eleven.

2 blasts leave seven casualties in central Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

A civilian and a (US-recruited) Sahwa fighter were killed and five others, including three Sahwa fighters, were wounded on Thursday in two explosions in central Baghdad, a police source said.

“Two roadside bombs went off simultaneously targeting Sahwa fighters in Sheikh Omar region in central Baghdad, killing a civilian and one fighter and injuring five, including three Sahwa fighters,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

“The explosions caused material damage to a number of nearby commercial stores and vehicles,” he noted.

Six civilians were wounded earlier in a bomb blast in Sadr City in eastern Baghdad.

IED injures 6 civilians in eastern Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Six civilians were wounded on Thursday morning when an improvised explosive device went off in eastern Baghdad, a medical source said.

“The bomb exploded in Sahet Hamza in Sadr City in eastern Baghdad, injuring the six civilians,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

“The wounded were rushed to the Sadr hospital for treatment,” he also said.

He did not add more details.

Civilian killed, 3 wounded in Mosul attacks

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Four persons were killed or wounded in two separate attacks in Mosul city, a police source said on Wednesday.

“An improvised explosive device (IED) went off in al-Karama neighborhood, eastern Mosul, killing a civilian and wounding two,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

“The device detonated automatically and did not target military or security vehicles,” the source explained.

“Meanwhile, another explosive charge targeted an Iraqi army vehicle in al-Nahrawan neighborhood, western Mosul, wounding a patrolman,” according to the same source.

Editor's Note:

Only God knows how many Iraqis are killed everyday. The following represents part of the reporting but readers are advised that the actual number of deaths should very much exceed what's reported.

Concerning deaths of US soldiers, only those US citizens who die in Iraq are included in the statistics. There are no published statistics about US soldiers who die of their injuries after that. There are no published statistics about the deaths or injuries of the private army soldiers (security contractors), or about those without US citizenship.

It is noteworthy that May 20, 2008 news reports showed that death squads which execute Iraqis on daily basis are no longer hiding themselves. Previously, Sunni leaders pointed to Mahdi Army and Badr militiamen as the perpetrators. Now, death squads are composed of the US-recruited Sahwa fighters and policemen.

On September 6, 2008, news reports mentioned the killing of nine Iraqis who were arrested by Al-Muthanna Brigade of the Iraqi Army stationed in the city of Al-Falloujah. There corpses were found with bullets shot on their heads and chests. This incident is evidence that the sectarian-based Iraqi forces have been functioning also as death squads, which killed Iraqis for suspicion of belonging to resistance organizations, without any legal procedures or trials.

Despite the fact that there are scores of organizations involved in the Iraq war, the Iraqi government officials prefer to refer to them as Alqaeda gunmen for propaganda purposes, as mentioned in the June 4, 2008 news report. For accuracy purposes, the term "Alqaeda gunmen" may be replaced with "Iraqi fighters."

Finally, on daily basis, US-led forces arrest scores of Iraqis in an attempt to pre-empt them from resistance. Tens of thousands of Iraqis are still there in US detention camps and in the prisons of the US-backed Iraqi government.
