US Soldier, Iraqi Soldier Killed in War Attacks, in Early October 17, 2008 News Reports

- US forces announced that a US soldier was killed by mortar fire in Diala Province, last night. This is the ninth this month, and the 4,185th since the US invasion and occupation of Iraq in 2003.

This figure does not include soldiers who die of injuries after evacuation from Iraq.

- An Iraqi soldier was killed, four were injured by a roadside bomb explosion in eastern Mosul.

Civilian killed, 4 wounded in IED blast in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

One civilian man was killed and four others wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off near a Shi'i mosque in northeastern Baghdad on Friday, an Iraqi police source said.
 
“The IED blasted as worshippers were stepping out of a Shi'i mosque in al-Sha'ab neighborhood, northeastern Baghdad, killing one man and injuring four others,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.
 He did not give more details on the incident.

Diala police arrest 2 female suicide bombers

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Iraqi police forces on Friday arrested two female suicide bombers in two separate operations in Diala, according to an official police source.

“Policemen on Friday waged a security raid in al-Ameen region in central Ba'aqouba, where they arrested Nedal Abdul Wahed al-Azawi who was preparing to implement a suicide attack at the center of the city,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

“Police forces also launched another operation in Abi Saida district in Muqdadiya, east of Ba'aqouba, where they arrested Rabiee'a Kadhem Muhammed, a suspected suicide bomber,” he noted.

He gave no more details.

Cop killed, 3 wounded in accident in Anbar

ANBAR / Aswat al-Iraq: A policeman was killed and three others were wounded on Friday in an accident near the city of Haditha, a police source said.

“A police vehicle patrol turned over on the highway near the city of Haditha, Al-Anbar province,” a police source told Aswat al-Iraq.

“four police men were wounded in the accident and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he explained, noting that one of them died of wounds.
