Hundreds of Jewish extremists storm Al-Aqsa Mosque, Hamas warns of consequences

[ 19/10/2008 - 09:42 PM ]

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)--

Hundreds of extremist Jewish settlers stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque on Sunday morning under tight security provided by the Israeli occupation police, according to eyewitnesses in Jerusalem.

The eyewitnesses added that the extremist Jewish settlers stormed the mosque in groups of around 20-30 who spread in different areas of Al-Aqsa compound and that clashes between Al-Aqsa Mosque guards on the one hand and the extremist settlers and the occupation police on the other after the extremists started reciting prayers from the Tanach loudly.

Spokesman for Al-Aqsa Foundation for Heritage and Endowments, Mahmoud Abu Ata, said that the number of extremist settlers involved in the storming is estimated at 450.

He added that around another 500 extremist settlers are expected to storm the Mosque at noon and that more such attacks are expected within the coming days.

Meanwhile, Hamas warned of the consequences of such assaults by extremist Jewish settlers saying that the occupation will pay a high price for its crimes against the Palestinian people and their holy places.

Spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said that what is happening in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque coincide with what is happening in Akka which means that there is a Zionist scheme that aims to expel the rest of the Palestinians from their land so that they could have a "purely Jewish state".

Barhoum added that when Sharon desecrated Al-Aqsa Mosque, Palestinians responded with the Aqsa intifada, and now Palestinians will not remain arms-folded vis-à-vis programmed crimes perpetrated against them and their holy places.
