A Traveling Flame to Protest the Israeli Siege of Gaza

Group says traveling flame will highlight Israeli siege on Gaza

Date: 24 / 10 / 2008  Time:  11:06
Gaza - Ma'an –

The head of a Palestinian group lit a flame Thursday night symbolizing the start of a new program of events protesting the Israeli siege on Gaza.

Member of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) Jamal Al-Khudari appeared before hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza City before symbolically lighting the flame that will travel from the Gaza Strip to other Arab and Islamic countries “condemning the practices of Israeli troops.”

"This flame is a message to the world that our people have enough stamina and will remain steadfast in demanding their rights, particularly the right to an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital,” Al-Khudari said.

He added that the lighting of the flame is just the beginning of a series of new events launched by the Popular Committee Against the Siege, which Al-Khudari also chairs.
