Israeli occupation government blocks travel of human rights activists out of Gaza

[ 15/09/2008 - 11:49 AM ]

GAZA, (PIC)--

The Israeli occupation authority has denied access via the Erez crossing for two Palestinian human rights activists in Gaza who were invited to attend a conference in Europe.

The Mizan center for legal rights said in a statement on Sunday that two of its activists Esam Mahmoud and Mahmoud Abu Rahma along with Raji Al-Sourani, the director of the Palestinian center for human rights, were denied permission to travel via Erez crossing to attend a conference on international humanitarian laws in the occupied Palestinian lands at the invitation of Swedish and Belgian organizations.

The center said that the decision fell in line with the IOA policy of imposing a tight siege on the Gaza Strip, noting that the permission request passes through complicated measures.

In another unrelated development, the interior ministry in the PA caretaker government in Gaza Strip urged all concerned parties to pressure the Ramallah authority into supplying new passports to the Strip inhabitants.

The Strip was out of new passports for two months now and no new ones were allowed by the illegitimate government of Salam Fayyad in what was viewed by the caretaker government as actual participation in the Israeli siege imposed on the Strip.
