- The US military base in Al-Majar Al-Kabeer, south of Al-Amarah, was attacked with rockets on Thursday.

- A US Hummer was destroyed in a roadside bomb, north of Al-Hillah, Babil Province.

- A US Hummer was damaged by a roadside bomb in Al-Ramadi, causing US casualties.

- A US Hummer was damaged by a roadside bomb in Al-Shu'ala area, west of Baghdad, causing US casualties.

Civilian, policeman wounded in IED blast in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A civilian and a policeman were slightly wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off near the Ninewa province building in central Mosul on Thursday, according to a security source.

“The police discovered the charge which was planted near concrete barricades from the direction of Bab Lakash area, central Mosul, and detonated it from a distance,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The two wounded men have already left the hospital after receiving the necessary treatment,” the source added. Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Police officer dies of wounds from Kirkuk blast

An officer of the al-Riad district police station died of wounds he had sustained earlier when an improvised explosive device (IED) attached to his vehicle went off on Thursday, a security source in Kirkuk said.
“An officer in the rank of major from the police station of al-Riad district, (45 km) southwest of Kirkuk, died on Thursday of his wounds,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The officer had been seriously wounded when the sticky IED went off inside his vehicle on March 10. The blast then had left the driver killed, the source added.
He did not give further details.
The oil-rich city of Kirkuk lies 250 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Car bomb leaves four casualties north of Mosul

A civilian was killed and three others were wounded on Thursday in a car bomb explosion in the north of Mosul, a security source said.
“A car rigged with explosives went off in Talkief district in north of Mosul, killing one civilian and injuring three, including two policemen,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
He gave no more details.
Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Mass grave found in Sulaimaniya

SULAIMANIYA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A mass grave was found on Thursday in central Sulaimaniya by Iraqi security forces, a security source said.
“The forces found a mass grave which contains a number of unknown bodies in Jwarbakh neighborhood in central Sulaimaniya,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“We will deal with the remains in a scientific way,” another source said, noting that the details will be announced at a press conference.

3 civilians killed in Baaquba bicycle bombing

Three civilians were killed and seven vehicles were devastated when a booby-trapped bicycle went off at a car showroom in Baaquba city, a source from Diala province’s police said on Thursday.
Earlier, the same source reported that the incident that took place in al-Tahreer neighborhood, central Baaquba, but did not comment on the casualties.
Baaquba, the capital city of Diala province, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

IED wounds 6 people in Mosul

Six people were wounded on Thursday in an improvised explosive device explosion in central Mosul, a security source said.
“An explosive charge went off in al-Shuhadaa garden near the Ninewa police department in central Mosul on Thursday (April 2), injuring six people, including five policemen,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“The wounded were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he added, without giving further details.
Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, is 405 km north of Baghdad.

Booby-trapped bicycle explodes in Ba'aquba

A booby-trapped bicycle on Thursday detonated on Thursday at a car showroom in Ba'aquba city, said a source from Diala province’s police.
“The incident took place in al-Tahreer neighborhood, central Ba'aquba,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. No reports on casualties have been announced.
Ba'aquba, the capital city of Diala province, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

Unknown gunmen kidnap 3 civilians in Diala

Unidentified gunmen on Thursday kidnapped three civilians in al-Khalis area, in the northern part of Diala, a security source in the province said.
“No information is available on the three citizens kidnapped in al-Khalis district, (15 km) north of Baaquba city,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“Investigations are underway to know the whereabouts of the kidnapped persons,” the source added.
Baaquba, the capital city of Diala province, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

50 wanted persons, suspects arrested in Basra

Security forces arrested on Thursday 11 persons wanted on “criminal” charges and 39 suspects others in Basra, according to the province’s police information & relations office.
“The arrests were conducted in a search crackdown on different areas of the province,” the office told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“Our forces also seized a Kalashnikov assault rifle and a gun, their munitions, a cell phone, 23 unlicensed vehicles and 10 unlicensed motorbikes,” it added.
The oil-rich port city of Basra lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

17 wanted, suspects arrested in Baghdad in 24 hours - BOC

Seventeen wanted men and suspects were arrested in security operations throughout Baghdad during the past 24 hours, Baghdad Operations Command (BOC) said in a release on Thursday.
“Iraqi security forces arrested 11 wanted persons and 6 suspects,” said the release as received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“Nine roadside bombs were also defused,” it added.
The release noted that arms and ammunition were seized during the operations.

Wanted man detained in Falluja

A dangerous wanted man was arrested on Thursday in western Falluja, with two guns with silencers found on his person, a police source said.
“Acting on intelligence information, a police force arrested a wanted man and found with him two guns with silencers and an amount of ammunition in western Falluja,” Major Hamid Ahmad told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“The man is a dangerous, wanted men,” he noted.
Falluja is 45 km west of Baghdad, while Ramadi, the capital of Anbar, lies 110 km west of the Iraqi capital.

Iraqi reporter arrested in Hilla

Security forces in Babel province arrested the reporter of an Iraqi daily newspaper while he was shooting some photos in Hilla city.
“I was arrested by the guards of the Babel Taxes Directorate while I was shooting some photos inside the office,” Imad al-Aaraji said in a phone call with Aswat al-Iraq news agency from his detention center.
“The guards then handed me over to al-Hurriya police station,” he said.

A source from Babel police said, “The Tax Directorate filed a petition against al-Aaraji, and the reporter will not be released unless the Directorate withdraws the petition.”
For his part, Imad al-Tayeb, who is an Iraqi journalist mediating to ensure the release of al-Aaraji, said “The Directorate’s protection force is demanding to admit al-Aaraji to the Judiciary.”
Hilla, the capital city of Babel province, lies 100 km south of Baghdad.

8 Islamic state of Iraq gunmen arrested in Diala

Police forces on Thursday arrested eight Islamic state of Iraq gunmen in the south of the city, the chief of the Diala police said.
“Policemen waged a crackdown operation on Thursday morning (April 2) in al-Abara region, south of Bahraz district in south of Baaquba,” where they arrested eight al-Qaeda gunmen and defused four bombs,” General Abdul Hussein al-Shemri told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Baaquba, the capital of Diala, is located 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

Gunman captured in Mosul

A gunman belonging to the self proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq was arrested on Thursday in the west of Mosul, a security source said.

“Police forces arrested a gunman of what is called the Islamic State of Iraq during a security operation in al-Mahlabiya district in west of Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“He found an explosive charge in his possession,” he noted.
He gave no further details.
Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Iraqis in MNF detentions down to 12,794

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

 The Multi National Forces (MNF) in Iraq on Thursday said that there are 12,794 Iraqi detainees still in MNF detention centers.

“This is the lowest number since 2006,” said a release issued by MNF and received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“The number will continue to shrink under the Iraq-MNF partnership agreement related to the release of detainees,” it added.
According to the agreement, 50 detainees among those who yet have not been convicted should be released per day.
