Israel builds new Jewish neighborhood south of O. Jerusalem

[ 28/04/2009 - 05:21 PM ]

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)--

The Israeli Haaretz newspaper reported Sunday that the Israeli occupation government is embarking nowadays on establishing a new illegal Israeli settlement neighborhood in the Palestinian area of Arab Al-Sawahreh, south of occupied Jerusalem, adding that Jewish religious nationalists will live in this area.

The newspaper said that the work on establishing this new neighborhood started about two months ago, pointing out that the neighborhood is surrounded by Palestinian homes from the north, south and west, while the eastern side is the main road leading to this ghetto and considered the only route to it

The building of this neighborhood was ratified by the IOA in 2000 when Ehud Olmert was still the mayor of occupied Jerusalem and encouraging the settlement activities inside the Palestinian neighborhoods.

In another related context, Faze'a Al-Sawafta, a senior Hamas official in the West Bank, urged Tuesday all Palestinian factions and forces to shoulder their responsibilities and to adopt one unified program to resist the Zionist schemes to judaize the holy city of Jerusalem, warning that what is happening in the West Bank and Jerusalem is a prelude to a big danger that would threaten everyone in the region.

In a press release received by the PIC, Sawafta said that the Zionist settlement activities intensified lately in the West Bank and Jerusalem which indicates clearly that the Israeli government is working on changing the demography of the Palestinian occupied lands.

The Hamas official noted that Israel annexed more than 12,000 dunums of Palestinian lands to the settlements of Kedar and Ma'ale Adumim, and now it works on the establishment of a new Jewish neighborhood in the area of Arab Al-Sawahreh and intends to establish railroad tunnels under the Aqsa Mosque.

He also warned that the establishment of synagogues around the Aqsa Mosque is intended for obliterating the Islamic identity of Jerusalem.
