US Military Delegation Visits Syria, Talks Include Relations with Iraq and Israel

 Bethlehem – Ma’an/Agencies –

A US military delegation will visit Syria on Wednesday in what is being called a signal of warming relations between the two countries.

The officials from the US Central Command will ask Syria to curb the infiltration of alleged insurgents across the border into US-occupied Iraq, according to diplomats in Damascus quoted by Reuters.

"The Americans have presented the Syrians with names of main facilitators of insurgents they want captured," one of the diplomats told Reuters.

Also on the agenda is the US push for the resumption of peace talks between Syria and Israel, which occupies the Golan Heights, in southern Syria.

State Department official Frederick Hoff, who is responsible for negotiating a territorial compromise between Israel and Syria, is also included in the delegation.

The visit comes soon after the US announced it plans to return an Ambassador to Damascus after a four-hear withdrawal.
