A Song for Gaza

By Murat Solmaz

August 14, 2009

ISTANBUL, (PIC)--

Turkish artist Murat Solmaz produced a song for Gaza. He wrote the lyrics and composed the music for the song in which he depicted the perseverance, defiance and resistance of the Palestinians in Gaza in the face of a brutal occupation.

Solmaz, who plays the piano said that money from the sale of the album will be sent through a Turkish charity to the needy in the Gaza Strip.

The artist said in a press release which was published on Thursday in the Turkish press that he wrote the song "Gaza in my heart" because Gaza was a role model in resisting occupation and all kinds of oppression which is practiced against those perceived to be weak by the tyrants around the world.

Solmaz added that he was inspired by the verse in the Holy Quran which says: "So lose not heart, nor fall into despair: for ye must gain mastery if ye are true in Faith." (III:139).

He also expressed regret that there weren't more artists paying attention to the suffering of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

He says in his song:
Gaza is deep in my heart
Gaza is deep inside me
You cannot destroy it
No matter how oppressive you are
You cannot erase it
God is a witness with His Magnificence
Gaza is deep in my heart
Gaza is in my breath
Gaza in the faces of children that smell of Paradise
Gaza is deep in my heart
Gaza is in my breath
Gaza protected by angles
There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger.
