 18 Pakistani fighters killed, 13 arrested in NW Province

        ISLAMABAD, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) --

Eighteen Pakistani fighters were killed and 13 others arrested in ongoing operations in northwest Pakistan during the last 24 hours, local officials said Wednesday.

    The residents of Mingora, the main city in Swat of North West Frontier Province (NWFP), found four fighters entering a house in the city. They surrounded the house and informed security forces who immediately responded by reaching the site. Later on two fighters were killed and another was apprehended in exchange of fire, according to the Inter Services Public Relations.

    Security forces conducted search operations at various areas in Swat, killed three fighters and apprehended 12 others.

    According to Swat media center, Taliban commander Shahpur Kamran and his two aides were killed during the clash with security forces in Swat Wednesday.

    In another incident, two security men and 10 fighters killed in Sarakai area of South Waziristan tribal agency, the private TV GEO News reported according to official sources.

    The incident occurred when fighters started firing on security forces and shoot two dead, security forces fired back and killed 10 fighters.

    Relief activities were continued by security forces with 24 trucks of mix rations distributed amongst the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Bajaur and North Waziristan tribal areas, and 269,205 cash cards have been distributed amongst the IDPs of Malakand in NWFP.

Oil And Gas Discovered at Exploratory Well in Pakistan

The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) on behalf of Sinjhoro Joint Venture has made an oil and gas discovery from its Baloch Exploratory Well in Pakistan.

The well is located in Sinjhoro Block in District Sanghar of Sindh. The joint venture companies of OGDC, OPI and Governing Holdings (Private) Limited having a pre-commercial working interests of 76 percent, 19 percent and 05 percent (carried) respectively.

According to the information sent to Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE), the Baloch Well No 01 was drilled down to its Target Depth of 3,463 meters.

Based on electronic logs, geological and drilling data the production testing was started on July 28, 2009.

The objective of the test was to evaluate the potential of sand body (massive sands) of Lower Goru formation of Cretaceous age. The well had produced 780bbls/d of volatile oil and 3.5mmscf/d of gas on 32/64 inches choke size at wellhead flowing pressure of 880psi
