Health ministry: 100 types of medicine out of stock

[ 30/08/2009 - 11:19 AM ]

GAZA, (PIC)--

The Palestinian health ministry in the Gaza Strip said on Sunday that 100 types of medications were out of stock in the ministry's stores while 55 other kinds were about to run out.

The ministry in its monthly report on August said that in less than three months the 55 types of medicines would not be available in its stores.

It warned of the continued Israeli closure of crossings, asking for an immediate and permanent opening of all crossings in order to allow entry of necessary medication to save the lives of hundreds of patients especially those suffering chronic diseases.

The ministry asked the human rights groups, the Red Cross and all freedom loving and honorable people of the world to urgently intervene to pressure Israel into allowing access for all types of medicine.

No swine flu among pilgrims Meanwhile, the ministry underlined that none of pilgrims returning from Saudi Arabia after performing the Umra (minor pilgrimage) caught swine flu.

The health undersecretary Hassan Khalaf said that all were allowed to return to their homes, noting that the ministry had pursued safety measures at the Rafah terminal.
