Anbar residents bade a final farewell on Thursday to 25 people killed in the yesterday’s suicide bombings, according to a member of a local council’s member.

“The curfew and the state of alert still underway in the province,” he added.

Members of the Anbar council decided today to sack police chief General Tareq al-Assal and to appoint Brigadier Mohammad Rashied.

A total of 25 persons, including a member of the Anbar council, were killed and 32 others, including the governor, were wounded in the attacks.

Anbar council’s member dies, governor lost left hand

ANBAR / Aswat al-Iraq:

Anbar governor lost his left hand, while member of the local council died of wounds sustained in the twin bombings that hit central Ramadi on Wednesday, a media source said on Thursday.

“Doctors at the Baghdad hospital cut the left hand of Governor Qassem Mohammad al-Fahdawi as he seriously wounded in the attack that targeted him on Wednesday (Dec. 30),” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency, noting that his health condition is stable.

“Member of the Anbar council, Saadon Abdulmuhsen al-Kharbeet died of wounds sustained in the same attack,” he added.

At 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, a car bomb exploded at a checkpoint in the provincial capital of Ramadi, drawing the governor, Qassem Mohammad al-Fahdawi, out of his nearby office. A suicide bomber then detonated his explosive vest, wounding the governor and two members of the provincial council.

At least 24 people were killed and scores were wounded in the attacks.

Ramadi, the capital of Anbar, is 110 km west of Baghdad.

IED kills 6, wounds 10 in Diala

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

At least six people were killed and ten others were wounded in an improvised explosive device explosion in north of Ba'aquba on Wednesday, according to a security source.

“An explosive charge went off on Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 30) targeting Shiite pilgrims coming back from Karbala in al-Umal neighborhood, north of Karbala, killing six and injuring ten,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Baaquba, the capital of Diala, is 57km northeast of Baghdad.
