Forbes selects 2 Indians as among world top billionaires

    NEW DELHI, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) --

The U.S. money magazine Forbes has selected Indian-born steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal and Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani as being among the 20 most powerful billionaires in the world, said the semi-official Press Trust of India on Sunday.

    In a report datelined from New York, the news agency quoted Forbes as saying that as "they possess not only the riches but also economic dominance as well as political clout".

    "(They) have tremendous sway over the world's markets, workers -- and, in some cases, armies," Forbes was quoted as saying.

    Bor Lakshmi Mittal controls the world's largest steel firm, ArcelorMittal. He has been ranked third on the Forbes most powerful rich guys' list "despite his fortune falling 24.5 billion U.S. dollars between March and November 2008", said the report.

    Ambani, head of Reliance Industries, India's largest company by market cap, was ranked seventh on the list, said the report.

    "(The company) produces oil, gas, petrochemicals and textiles. Personally funding construction of a 27-story home in Mumbai that could cost 2 billion U.S. dollars," Forbes was quoted as saying.
