- One Iraqi soldier was killed, two were injured by a roadside bomb in Al-Fatimiya, Balad Ruz.

- One Iraqi soldier was killed, three were injured in western Mosul.

- One Iraqi soldier was killed, another was injured by a roadside bomb north of Beiji.

- 2 Iraqi soldiers were killed, four were injured in a roadside bomb in Al-Iskandariya.

3 civilians killed, injured in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two civilians were killed and another one was injured in two separate incidents in Mosul Monday, a police source said.

“A civilian was killed and another one was injured by gunmen on Monday (Feb. 16) in al-Midan region in central Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Unknown armed men shot and killed a civilian in Mosul al-Jadieda region in western Mosul,” he added.

“The two bodies were sent to the morgue, while the wounded was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he also said.

Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Mortar shell kills 3 children, wounds 7 in Amara

MISSAN / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three children were killed and seven others were wounded in a mortar shell blast in Amara city, a police source said on Monday.

“The children were playing with a mortar shell in an area in Abu Rmana region in central Amara, when it exploded, killing three and injuring seven,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The wounded were rushed to al-Sadr public hospital in Missan,” he noted.

Amara, the capital of Missan, lies 390 km south of Baghdad.

6 cops wounded in Diala

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Six policemen were wounded on Monday in a bomb explosion in the east of Mosul, a security source said.

“An explosive charge was detonated on Monday (Feb. 16) targeting a police vehicle patrol in Nada village in south of Mendli, east of Baaquba, injuring six cops, two of them who remain in serious condition,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The force was tracking down gunmen in the village and a shootout flared up between them,” he explained.

He did not add more details.

Baaquba, the capital of Diala, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

Drop in Iraqi detainees in U.S. jails

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

The number of Iraqi detainees in the U.S. jails went down to 14550, while the number of detained juveniles lowered to 38, the U.S. troops adviser said on Monday.

“The number of Iraqis detained in the U.S. prisons went down to 14550, while the detainees under 18 were down to 38 after the implementation of U.S.-Iraqi accord which envisages the release of 1500 prisoners every month which means 50 prisoners everyday,” Karim al-Sayab told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“A total of 656 Iraqi detainees have been released since the beginning of February,” he noted.

Regarding detainees from other nationalities, the adviser said the forces keep 140 prisoners from Arab and foreign nationalities.

U.S. forces keep thousands of Iraqi and foreign detainees in the two Bucca jails in Basra and in Baghdad.

Iraqi soldier killed by bomb blast in Mosul

An Iraqi army soldier was killed on Monday in a bomb explosion in western Mosul, said a police source.

“An improvised explosive device went off on Monday (Feb. 16) targeting an Iraqi army vehicle patrol in al-Kawar region near al-Maash market in western Mosul, killing a soldier,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The body was sent to the forensic medicine department,” he added, without giving further details.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

3 killed, 10 wounded in bombing attack in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three civilians were killed and 10 others wounded when a roadside bomb went off in southeastern Baghdad on Monday, a security source said.

“The explosive charge was planted by unknown gunmen on the highway in al-Kamaliya neighborhood, southeastern Baghdad,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The explosion took place while a bus full of pilgrims coming back from Karbala was passing by,” he said.

He added that police forces cordoned off the area while ambulances rushed the wounded to a nearby hospital.

Hospital receives 15 wounded from Baghdad blast

The Sadr Hospital in Baghdad on Monday received 15 wounded persons from the explosive charge blast that ripped through the capital earlier today, according to a local medic.

“Some of the wounded that included four women are in a critical condition,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Earlier today, a police source said that a roadside improvised explosive device (IED) planted by unknown men detonated near al-Hamzah Square in al-Habibiya area, eastern Baghdad, killing two civilians and wounding 10 others.

12 civilians killed, wounded in Baghdad blast

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two civilians on Monday were killed and 10 others were wounded in an explosion that ripped through eastern Baghdad, according to a police source.

“A roadside improvised explosive device (IED) planted by unknown men detonated near al-Hamzah Square in al-Habibiya area, eastern Baghdad, killing two civilians and wounding 10 others,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The blast caused damage to two civilian vehicles,” the source added. “Iraqi security forces sealed off the scene of the blast and rushed the wounded to a nearby hospital,” according to the same source.
