2 US Soldiers, 13 Iraqis Killed, Attacks on US Forces and Bases

Yaqen.net and Amsi.org reported the following news:

- 8 Iraqis were killed in two small cars, which were run over by a US armored vehicle, in Al-Sa'a area, in Mosul.

- US bases south of Baghdad were attacked with rockets south of Baghdad, a US vehicle was damaged in Abu Gharib attack.

- A US soldier was killed during clashes between US forces and Iraqi fighters in Al-Huwaija. The fighting broke out as a result of a house-searching and arrest operation in the area.

- One US-recruited Sahwa fighter was killed, four were injured, when they were attacked by gunmen at a checkpoint in Al-Dhulou'iya.

- US forces announced that suicide among US soldiers in Iraq increased by 11%, exceeding the civilian rate.

MNF base in Kirkuk rocketed

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

The airbase of the Multinational forces in Kirkuk was attacked by an unknown rocket, a source from the joint coordination center in Kirkuk said on Monday.

“A rocket was launched by unknown gunmen at 2:00pm on Monday (Feb. 2) in Baghdad road region in southern Kirkuk towards the Multinational forces’ base in southwestern Kirkuk, with no reports on casualties,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Police patrols rushed to the area and found the launch pad,” he added.

He did not give more details.

Kirkuk is 250 km northeast of Baghdad.

12 killed, injured in Mosul attack

The Casualties from the bombing attack that took place on Monday in western Mosul rose to two dead and 10 wounded, according to a security source.

“The death toll of the bomb blast that targeted a U.S. vehicle patrol on Monday (Feb. 2) in western Mosul rose two dead and ten wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency, noting that the two are a man and his son.
The same source had said earlier that an explosive charge targeted a U.S. patrol vehicle in Raas al-Gada area, western Mosul, wounding six civilians.

Aswat al-Iraq news agency has tried to contact the U.S. side, but to no avail.
Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Policeman wounded in explosion in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

One policeman was wounded when a roadside bomb went off near his patrol in western Mosul city, a source from the Ninewa police said on Monday.

“The incident took place at Talal-Roman area,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The wounded policeman was rushed to a hospital for treatment,” the source added, not giving further details.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Cop’s wife wounded in armed attack

WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq:

A wife of a policeman on Monday was wounded in an armed attack on her house in western Kut, according to a local police source.

“Unknown gunmen attacked the house of a policeman in al-Azza area, western Kut, wounding his 29-year-old wife,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The policeman was not in the house at the time of the attack,” the source noted, adding that an investigation is currently underway.

Kut, the capital city of Wassit province, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad.

2 unknown bodies found in Makhmour

ARBIL / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two unknown bodies were found in Iraq’s northern Makhmour district, a local security source said on Monday.

“On Monday, police forces found two unknown bodies belonging to civilians on a road between al-Kweer and Makhmour,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The bodies bore gunshot wounds to the head and chest and were delivered to the morgue,” the source added. Makhmour district is administratively affiliated with Ninewa province. It lies 68 km southwest of Arbil city, which is located 362 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

1st U.S. casualty in Feb.

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

One U.S. serviceman died as a result of non-combat related injuries, raising the number of U.S. fatalities in 2009 to 16, the U.S. army said.

A U.S. Soldier died as a result of a "non-combat" related injury in Kirkuk, Iraq Jan 31, read a U.S. army statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin and release by the Department of Defense,” the statement added.

The death brings the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003 to 4,237.
