Mitchell's plan to open a permanent office in Jerusalem upsets the Israeli occupation government officials

Editor's Note:

ccun.org, February 24, 2009

The Israeli occupation government officials did not object the permanent presence of Tony Blair in Jerusalem. When the presence of George Mitchell upsets them then an explanation is warranted.

Is it because Tony Blair is a Zionist stooge?

Is it because George Mitchell, who succeeded in bringing peace to Northern Ireland, is going to pursue his task as diligently as he did there?

Is it because George Mitchell is an Arab-American, which is truly upsetting to the racist, anti-Arab bigots ruling the Zionist state?

Maybe all of the above.

Maariv: Mitchell's plan to open an office in Jerusalem upsets Israel

[ 23/02/2009 - 04:22 PM ]

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)--

An official source in the office of the Israeli occupation government war minister said that Israeli security circles have concerns about the intention of US envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell to open a permanent office for himself in occupied Jerusalem with the aim of pushing forward the political process between the Palestinians and Israelis.

The Israeli Maariv newspaper quoted Monday the official source as saying that the war minister's office had received unconfirmed information from sources close to Mitchell about his intention to open an office in Jerusalem which carried a great political significance.

The Israeli source added that Mitchell wants to send a message to Israel that he would not deal with the Palestinian-Israeli conflict by remote control.

In another context, Maariv reported that outgoing Israeli occupation government prime minister, Ehud Olmert, dismissed Amos Gilad from his post as an envoy to the Egyptian-sponsored talks with Hamas.

This decision came after Gilad, the head of the political and security affairs in the Israeli war ministry, sharply criticized Olmert in an interview with Maariv for linking the issue of the captive soldier with the opening of Gaza crossings, saying it was an insult to Egypt and affected Israel's security.

The newspaper said that Gilad had in the aftermath of this decision to cancel his scheduled trip to Egypt, and thus the Cairo talks would be frozen.   For his part, Hamas spokesman in Gaza Fawzi Barhoum said in a statement on Monday that Israeli premier Ehud Olmert's discharge of Amos Gilad from his mission in mediating a calm agreement with Palestinian resistance through Egypt proved that Olmert and his government were not serious about reaching calm.

He charged that Olmert's Zionist government had no real intention to conclude a calm agreement or a prisoners' swap deal. The Zionist government exploited the Egyptian efforts in this regard as a distraction until the Zionist elections were held, Barhoum opined. The spokesman asked Egypt and the Arab countries to respond to the deliberate obstruction of those efforts by opening the Rafah border terminal once and for all.
