International legal experts tour Rafah investigating Israeli war crimes

Date: 27 / 02 / 2009  Time:  12:03
Bethlehem – Ma’an –

A panel of international legal experts investigating Israeli war crimes planned to tour bombed-out areas of the southern Gaza Strip on Friday on the last day of a mission sponsored by the Arab League.

The mission has sought to gather evidence and eyewitness testimony, and to witness firsthand the destruction left behind by Israel’s three-week offensive in Gaza. The delegation plans to prepare a report to be submitted to the League.

Among the experts on the five-day fact-finding mission are John Dugard, the former UN Special Rapporteur for the Palestinian Territories, Finn Lenghjem, a judge and legal expert; Paul De Waart, an international legal expert; Gonzalo Boye, a Spanish lawyer, Francisco Corte Real, an expert in forensic medicine.

Other international lawyers and Arab League officials are also in the delegation, which has been hosted by the independent Palestinian Center for Human Rights.

The delegation entered through the rarely used Rafah crossing, which is controlled by Egypt.
