3 US Soldiers, 3 Iraqi Policemen Killed, 7 Injured in Attacks, June 5-6, 2009


Yaqen.net reported that a US forces patrol was attacked by a roadside bomb in Ba'aqouba in Diala Province.

Yaqen.net also reported that the Tareq Al-Asali, Police chief of Al-Ramadi city, was injured in an attempt on his life today.

Amsi.org reported the death of a US soldier who was wounded by a sniper fire in Al-Falloujah yesterday.

Amsi.org also reported the death of Faisal Al-Shimmery, a senior police officers in Al-Falloujah, in an attack by a roadside bomb.

Amsi.org further reported that a US vehicle was destroyed by a roadside bomb in Ba'aqouba.

Blast in Kirkuk leaves no casualties

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

A roadside bomb on Saturday went off targeting an Iraqi army patrol in al-Rashad district, southwest of Kirkuk city, without causing any casualties, said a source from the police.

“The incident took place in Sabaa-Nissan village of al-Rashad district, 35 km southwest of Kirkuk,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The attack left no casualties,” he said.

The source pointed out that police patrols headed to the incident’s location, and found that the attack left only some damage to one of the army’s vehicles.

The oil-rich city of Kirkuk lies 250 km northeast of Baghdad.

3 cops wounded in armed attack in Falluja

ANBAR / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three policemen on Saturday were injured when unknown gunmen attacked a checkpoint in Falluja city, according to a police source.

“The attack occurred in Karmat al-Falluja district, eastern Falluja,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The wounded were taken to the Falluja Hospital for treatment, the source noted.

Earlier today, one policeman was killed and four others were wounded in an explosive charge blast in Falluja city. Falluja, the largest city in Anbar province, lies 45 km west of Baghdad; while Ramadi, the capital of Anbar, lies 110 km west of Baghdad.

5 cops killed, wounded in Anbar blast

ANBAR / Aswat al-Iraq:

One policeman on Saturday was killed and four others were wounded in an explosive charge blast in Falluja city, according to a local police source.

“An improvised explosive device (IED) targeted an Iraqi police patrol vehicle in al-Karma district, eastern Falluja, killing one cop and injuring four others,” Captain Mohammed Talab from al-Karma police told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Falluja, the largest city in Anbar province, lies 45 km west of Baghdad; while Ramadi, the capital of Anbar, lies 110 km west of Baghdad.

Body of policeman found in Jalawlaa

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

The body of a policeman was found in a village of the district of Jalawlaa on Friday, a security source in Diala said, adding he had been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen on Thursday evening.

“The body, found in the village of Bunera, Jalwalaa, (30 km) southwest of Khanaqin, which showed signs of having been tortured and shot, was removed to a morgue in the district,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Khanaqin lies 155 km northeast of Baaquba, the capital of Diala province, 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

2 U.S. soldiers killed in Diala, Anbar

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two U.S. soldiers were killed in two separate incidents in the provinces of Diala and al-Anbar, increasing the number of U.S. fatalities this month to four, according to the U.S. army in Iraq on Friday.

“A Multi National Force – West Marine died as the result of a non-combat related incident June 5,” read a U.S. army statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“A Multi-National Corps – Iraq Soldier died late last night of injuries received during a grenade attack on a patrol in the Diyala province of northern Iraq, June 4,” the U.S. army said in another statement.

The deaths bring to 4,311 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003, including 90 soldiers killed in 2009.
