Car bomb kills 16, injures 35 in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

At least 16 people were killed and 35 were wounded in a car bomb explosion on Thursday in northeastern Baghdad, a police source said.

“A car rigged with explosives went off on Thursday (Mar. 26) near al-Zahrawi hospital in al-Sha'ab area in northeastern Baghdad, killing 16 and injuring 35,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The blast came after less than 24 hours from two explosions in al-Adhamiya and al-Qahera neighborhoods in northern and northeastern Baghdad, during which 8 civilians were wounded.

3 workers injured in blast southwest of Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three electricity workers were wounded Thursday in a bomb blast in southwest of Kirkuk, the local police chief said.

“An improvised explosive device went off near the electricity department’s workers in al-Rashad district, southwest of Kirkuk, injuring three workers who were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment,” Brig. Sarhad Qader told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Kirkuk is 250 km northeast of Kirkuk.

Soldier wounded in attack near Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

An Iraqi army soldier was wounded in an armed attack in the southwest of Kirkuk, a source from the joint coordination center in Kirkuk said on Thursday.

“Unknown gunmen shot and injured a solider from the 12th division of the Iraqi army on Thursday morning (Mar. 26) in Riyadh district in the southwest of Kirkuk while on duty,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Meanwhile, the same source said that police forces in cooperation with U.S. troops found on Wednesday night (Mar. 25) an explosive charge near al-Aziziya village in the southwest of Kirkuk.

Kirkuk is 250 km northeast of Baghdad.

Police save security guard from kidnappers in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

Police forces Thursday saved a security guard of the chief of the criminal court from kidnappers in southwestern Kirkuk, a senior police officer said.

“Police forces on Thursday morning (Mar. 26) managed to save one of the security guards of the chief of the criminal court in Kirkuk, when unknown gunmen attempted to kidnap him in al-Waseti neighborhood in southwestern of the city while heading to his work,” Colonel Ahmad Shmirani told Aswat al-Iraq news agency, noting that the gunmen managed to escape.

Ha gave no further details.

Kirkuk lies 250 km north of Baghdad.

8 wounded in 2 Baghdad blasts

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Eight persons on Thursday were injured in two blasts that ripped through northern Baghdad at a late hour on Wednesday evening, according to a police source.

“On Wednesday evening, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated on Omar Ibn Abdelaziz street in Baghdad’s northern area of Adhamiya, wounding four civilians,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “Another device exploded in al-Qahera neighborhood, northeastern Baghdad, wounding four others,” the source added.
