Overwhelming Majority of Victims of Israeli Criminal War on Gaza Were Civilians

Legal center refutes IOA lies on number of victims in Gaza war

[ 27/03/2009 - 02:43 PM ]

GAZA, [PIC]--

The Palestinian center for human rights has categorically refuted Thursday the Israeli occupation government allegations that most of the Palestinian victims in the war on Gaza were Hamas fighters, stressing that the bulk of the victims were civilians.

In a statement it issued on Thursday over the matter, the center accused the IOA of attempting to distort facts, and to cover the illegal Israeli acts during the war, stressing that the war had left more than 1417 Palestinian dead; the great majority of them were civilians.

"Around 926 Palestinian civilians were killed in the war, including 313 children, 116 women, and 225 Palestinian policemen, while Hamas and the other resistance factions lost 236 fighters, which comprises 16.7% of the victims", the center pointed out.

Hamas Movement acknowledged that 49 of its fighters were martyred in the Israeli invasion to Gaza last January. The Israeli occupation government also acknowledged that around 55 of its soldiers were killed in the war.

The center also described the Israeli categorizing of the PA policemen as fighters as illegal, and that it violates international law that categorizes policemen as civilians, urging the international community to open immediate investigation on the IOF crimes during the war on Gaza, and to prosecute all Israeli political and military officials involved in those crimes.

The spokesman of the Israeli occupation army alleged that 709 Palestinian resistance fighters were killed, in addition to 162 men aged between 16-50 years old whose affiliations weren’t identified by the Israelis yet, and that the number of Palestinian civilians killed in the war was only 295, including 89 minors, and 49 women.

A couple of weeks ago, Israeli occupation soldiers confessed that they were indeed received direct orders from their superiors to deliberately target and kill Palestinian civilians that put the Israeli military and political echelons in hot water.
