Arab Summit in Doha Supports Omar Al-Bashir Against Zionist-Controlled ICC

ccun.org, March 30, 2009

The Arab summit in Doha has expressed support for the Sudanese President, Omar Al-Bashir, against the Zionist-controlled ICC prosecutor to indict him regarding Darfur fighting.

The Zionist-controlled ICC prosecutor never attempted to prosecute the Israeli war criminals who never stopped committing war crimes against the Palestinian people.

Omar Al-Bashir addressed the summit thanking the Arab leaders for their support and explaining how the Darfur problem started and has been maintained. Basically, he said that Western interests have been behind the rebellion in Darfur, in order to control the region's resources (oil and uranium).

Sudan eclipses Palestine at Arab League Summit

Doha – Ma’an –

Sudan and its head of state, Omar Al-Bashir, Who was indicted by the Zionist-controlled ICC which never attempted to prosecute the Israeli war criminals, are likely to eclipse Palestine at this year’s Arab League Summit in Doha, Qatar.

While the organizers of the conference say that the Palestinian struggle for self-determination will be a key issue, the attention given to Al-Bashir’s arrival at the airport on Sunday already shows how Sudan has risen to the top of the agenda.

The absence of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, a sign of the deep rift in Arab official politics, is also expected to mar the meeting. War-torn Iraq and Somalia will be on the agenda, as well.

The Arab leaders are expected to show support for Al-Bashir after the International Criminal Court (ICC) indicted him for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the conflict in Sudan’s Darfur province. The indictment is perceived in the Middle East as a Western attempt to undermine a sitting Arab leader.

Al-Bashir adviser Mustafa Osman Ismail told reporters in Doha, according to Reuters, "We expect this popular uprising of support for Sudan, not just in the Arab world, to be translated into a strong resolution that meets the hopes of the Arab street."

At an official level, Arab League officials say that Sudan will be only one of 26 individual issues discussed at the conference.

Assistant Secretary General of the Arab League and head of Palestine and Arab occupied territories sector Muhammad Sbeih said that these 26 items include the international financial crisis, the incoming right-wing Israeli government, the occupied Golan Heights and the situation in southern Lebanon.

Palestinian Authority sources also expressed optimism about the summit, hoping that the League will support the Palestinian reconciliation process.

The Arab leaders will also vote on whether to keep the Arab Peace Initiative of 2002 on the table. The plan offers Israel full diplomatic relations with Arab states in exchange for a withdrawal from all the territory it occupied in 1967, including Jerusalem, the West Bank, Gaza, and the Syrian Golan Heights.
